Charles Russel, the founding father of your religion, prophesied that Christ would return in 1874 and when He didn't appear changed it to 1914. Does this make him a false prophet and if not, why not?

First of all, we're not "Jehovah's" ! Why people call us this is beyond me.

Russel wasn't a "prophet" and didn't claim to be. He was simply a Bible student who wanted answers that the churches couldn't provide. So he started researching different Biblical prophecies, one of which is "the end times." The Bible says that 'the light will get progressively brighter and brighter', meaning that understanding of the deeper things of the scriptures will progress over time.

The date 1914 is a fulfillment of the prophecy of seven times at Daniel 4:23,24, 31 and 32. The major fulfillment began when Judah was desolated in 607 BCE. Revelation 12:6, 14 says that 3 1/2 times is equal to 1,260 days, so twice that would be 2, 520 days, or 2,520 years, since Ezekiel 4:6 says "a day for a year."

Coincidentally, 2,520 years from 607 BCE brings us to- gasp! 1914 of our Common Era. It was in 1914 that God installed Christ as King of His Heavenly Kingdom. It has nothing to do with Christ's return.

BTW, we prefer to be called Witnesses, since Jehovah is God's name, not ours.

Thanks.

He isn't a prophet lol. He is a founder of a religion, big difference. He is also the founder of one of the only religions that realize their mistakes when they make one and CHANGE.

TO Patrone07:

Ecclesiastes 10:3: "Even as he walks along the road, the fool lacks sense and shows everyone how stupid he is."

(Incase some people haven't realized yet, now is the time you read between the lines.)

It is frustrating when people who haven't read a book in there entire life talk about a religion. I have read about many different religions, just to know a bit about them. I would recommend you do the same, or don't speak at all. (This last statement isn't directed to anyone in particular.)

To Father K:
Don't be jealus, just because some religions pay more attention to the bible than a pope, doesn't mean you have to get mad at them. They are only doing the right thing.

Rock harder: Jesus was actually "kinged" in 1914, and this date can be gotten to using the 77 weeks in the prophecy. No one know the end, but at least some people know how to write. Lol, this last sentence was also not directed to anyone in particular.

Find a collection of Jehovah's Witness publications, or just look on the internet. Look at the 10+ dates they predicted the world would end. You pretty much have to be a false prophet if you couldn't prophecize the world's end ten times.

he is a false prophet, the Bible tells us to test prophets to see if they come from God, Russel failed, therefore, He wasn't sent by God. THe Bible also warns us not to follow any other gospel other than the one given by the apostles of Christ, Russel presented a different Gospel becuase he doesn't support the holy trinity.

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world" I John 4:1

Charles Taze Russell was a false prophet and those who followed in his footsteps are worse.

Yes. He didn't hear that from the Jehovah God. So, who was he listening to?
