As the previous two responders said, benign means the tumor is not a cancer that is likely to metastasize to other parts of the body. Does that mean it won't become life threatening? No! Benign tumors can grow large enough to threaten life, especially if the tumor is located near a vascular or pulmonary source (near the lungs, heart, or another main circulatory supply vessel). Fortunately, most benign tumors do not grown that large. Only a physician can determine if the tumor is of the type that can cause physical harm.

It means it's a non-cancerous mark (could be anywhere - brain, arm, colon, etc.). This is a good thing, at least in regard to the aspect that it isn't any form of cancer. The lesion may need to be removed depending upon its size and/or location, but "benign" means 'non-cancerous' medically..

All the best.

It depends on what kind of lesion you're talking about....assuming skin? Anything benign is the opposite of malignant. It means it is not cancerous, so not dangerous. The sun is a major contributor.
