I have 2 huskies and when I was pregnant it seemed they would look out for me as if they knew something was going on (they do this when you are not feeling well too).
The only problem I found while I was pregnant was at dinner time, one would sometimes get excited and jump up, so I asked my husband to do the feeding. Other than that I have has no problems. Bub is happy and healthy and when we go outside, the dogs are curious and come over and sniff.
Our dogs are rather large and can seem scary, so anyone (adult or child) who goes outside with them, is always accompanied by myself or my husband. I know they will never do anything as they are gentle and loving, but I don't like people being with them alone as you never know what can happen. Then again, even if I had a cat, I wouldn't leave a young child alone with them as cats can be very unpredictable; some have even slept on babies.
Our dogs live outside as they shed a lot of fur. If they were inside, this is one thing I would have to watch as hair can irritate and is sometimes an allergen, but if there is no history of pet related allergies in the family, everything should be fine.
Also, if bub is playing outside, make sure they are nowhere near the poo. Have a separate areas for people and dogs, or clean up after the dogs.
I grew up with cats and dogs and they were wonderful companions. Good luck and I hope I have helped

I have never heard of dogs causing health problems with unborn children having said that is probably not a good idea to allow a dog to jump on your stomach while you're pregnant it may cause a miscarriage or damage the baby in some way.
We had two dogs when my wife was pregnant and my son was born healthy with no health problems at all, in my experience dogs are not a problem with unborn children although when the child is born please don't ignore the dog involve it with the child or the dog may get jealous.

My father is a veterinarian. My mother was pregnant and we grew up with many pets. Dogs, cats, reptiles, etc.... My brother and I have no health problems, have never had asthma, and the only thing I'm allergic to is pollen. Now I have 4 kids and baby on the way and 2 dogs. And I have no fears about having a baby with pets. Just make sure your dog is well trained and always supervise them when they are with the baby or children. Also, all of our pets have always been inside pets. I don't believe in outside dogs or cats.

The baby should be fine. Yet Genetics could cause a problem so unless you, your companion or anyone closely related to you has no dog allergies. If they do I would advise my doctor and he would probably tell you to keep the baby out of reach of the dog never keep the baby out of your sight etc. The jumping on your stomach is no big deal as long as the dog doesn't bite, scratch or harm you in any way. If the dog is aggresive take extra care of your child. If your dog isn't aggresive and the child has no alleergies it would be good for the baby to grow up with the dog since it will be a loyal companion, friend and a guardian angel to your child.
I hope all turns out well,
Ginevra

Anyone at any age could have allergies to dogs but I know I had a dog when I was pregnant and when the baby came she was so jealous that all she would want to do is bite me and I had to get rid of her. They say to pay as much attention to the dog after the baby is born as you did before but it's hard to do when you have a newborn.

when my cousin was pregnant my dog would hang out with her more than usual and even would fall asleep in the space between her chest and big stomach (its a chihuahua). her baby was born perfectly healthy and with a full head of hair. he loves the dogs too. i think its pretty safe as long as the dog isnt TOO big and actually, i heard that dogs help avoid asthma and colds, but in older children (not infants) so that's all i can help you with!

You have to teach your dog NOT to jump on you. YOU will have
to be responsible for that.........the dog is, after all, just a dog.
However, I know PLENTY of people who have pets (dogs, cats) when they are pregnant and NONE of them have had any problems with the babies due to the pets.

Yes, it is just fine - unless he is huge, then he must learn to stay down. I had a Sheltie that loved to lay on my tummy -- my son would just kick and kick her. She would just sniff my tummy. She was the BEST babysitter!! hehe Our best friend opened the front door (I was in the kitchen) and she jumped at him growling -- she would not let anyone near him unless we were in the same room. No asthma nor allergy problems.

you shouldn't have anything jump on your stomach be it a dog or your man..We had a dog and I wanted my babies around it so they wouldn't be allergic or scared of them...just don't go anywhere near a kitty litter box..my doc said there's bad bacteria in there that may harm the baby..
