to make the room look more mature and sophisticated, use greys and blues to work with the light purple. Put your bed wherever it fits best to maximize the space. ceiling could be painted a very very pale blue/mauve. bedding and window treatments in a striped pattern of silver/grey and eggplant (blackish purple). furniture could be a very pale grey. On the walls try a collection of large seashells glued to the wall and then framed in navy blue deep wood frames with no glass. depending on what kind of music you like, you could find some great framed prints slightly abstract , there are some really cool looking jazz prints available. to lighten the room up a bit you could try this technique: put up a chair rail molding about 18" down from the ceiling all around the room. then paint the 18" space the same very light blue of the ceiling. The chair rail could be painted in navy blue or eggplant. put a very bright light in your ceiling fixture and then install a dimmer switch (inexpensive). This allows you to have all the light when needed plus the ability to soften it down and create ambience and mood lighting. for bright pops of color in the accents, choose aqua blue and pumpkin orange. a couple of prints of tropical fish could supply these colors. An aquarium would work well with this decor theme.

I would put down a nice seagrass rug and maybe a slipcovered or seagrass headboard, they are easy to make too and it's neutral so it will go with anything. Some gauze curtains would look nice in white and a nice big white comforter, layers of comfy blankets in all neutral colors, maybe some soft green sheets or tone on tone neutral stripes with euro pillows and shams. For a desk I would get the Vika Glasholm Artur table from Ikea.com, it's a nice sea colored glass top and white base that looks like sawhorses for a casual look and it's very affordable or you can do a natural wood base and wood top. Put shelves above it for books and stuff and if you have the room put in a nice big comfy chair. Also put in a neat cork board to hang pics and neat stuff so it's all in once place and looks neat, a mirror is always good, floor length to check yourself out and maybe a nice coat rack or hooks on the wall to hang purses and things you don't wanna put away. Ikea has some great framed art, I think some beach photos maybe in black and white. As far as the bed placement, put it where you think it fits best. To keep things organized get lots of baskets and under the bed boxes to store seasonal items. There are also neat ways to hang art by just putting in two eye hooks and few feet apart and running twine through them tight, now get wooden clothes pins and you can hang favorite cd covers, small peices of art you paint yourself, pics of family and friends or neat postcards you can pick up anywhere, there are tons of beachy postcards and they are cheap art, also frame or make a collage of postcards you like. You can change the art when ever the mood strikes. Good luck!

Hmmm.... bins and baskets are good places to stash things when you in a hurry and dont want to take the time to put it away now, they can also look nice. As far as color goes, I would paint one wall with an accent, mabe a darker purple or a nutral. If the nutral is draker it will make the rest of your wall lighter and opeinging up the space. When you pick an accent color you should keep in mind a color scheme, for instatnce if you chose a grey accent wall it might be nice to have a black bed/dresser/ect. This would give a nice relaxing feeling. Then all you need are mirros and candels and picture frames with friends in them.

My friend had a beach themed room. It was pretty, her walls were light purple too. Stay with light colors. Like white, and beige. A big white comforter with tan pillows. Other colors like baby blue or baby yellow would go well too.
if it is possible you can put your bed in a corner, that helps give more space.

Blue, Red, Green and Pink with accents can be good.....Depending on the color you choose you choose a darker or lighter wood color. With pink and red use darker wood with blue and green lighter wood. You need little accesories to match you also need a theme either beach, party or whatever.... just little things like mirrors and flowers can complete a room. Let me know what color you go with and email me @ uncmnk131@yahoo.com

Anything beach/water related or music related is all you need if you really do like music and the ocean best.
