I've been working in Japan for a couple of years, coming back things have changed just too much in my old hometown. I think Swansea might be the perfect fresh start. I live now in Coventry (Earlsdon Area-a little bit of a boho village right next to the city centre great shops nice homes, young-ish vibe little bit studenty).
I'm looking for somewhere similar to settle. I'd like to live between the University & city centre, as these are the 2 most likely places I would work. I do not drive & would have to get about on foot & by bus. I'm still pretty young so close to coffee-shops bars & nightclubs but not above one. Have about 120k & could stretch to another 15k or so if pushed. Would like two or three bedrooms(3 would be better) do not mind if a new build (in fact this might be better than a fixer-up this time round) I do like having space to move about-tiny rooms & houses are not for me. So WHERE should I be looking to live - PLEASE HELP ME you yummy Swansea people.

No I am not Welsh my father is and there is still some family and friends dotted about Wales, but that is not the reason I picked it. I want to be closer to my parents now they are both well in to their 60's and they live in the South of England. I DO NOT and CAN NOT AFFORD to love on the South of England. Lived in Nottingham, Newark, Manchester and Glasgow in the past and this time decided on Wales many people suggested Cardiff and Swansea - I just picked Swansea - I have not been to either in over a decade. So anyone have any more suggestions of a good area to focus on for house buying I am going over for two days later in the month.

I'm from Cardiff not Swansea but unlike others who've answered your question I can appreciate that there are some very pleasant parts to Swansea. I think the loveliest parts are on the coast road from the city centre towards Mumbles - just beautiful, particularly on a warm summer's day. Mumbles, West Cross, Oystermouth, Langland Bay and the Gower peninsular itself are pretty too but busy in the summer.
It's not a bad place to live - certainly no worse than anywhere else really (it has it's grotty areas just like anywhere else). Pop down for a weekend and have a look around.
Good luck, and if you don't like it come to Cardiff, it's great!

I don`t know what your budget is,but the marina apartments are fairly expensive compared with some other options you might consider. I live about a mile or so from the university and about a mile and a half from the city centre. It`s very convenient and the housing is not too expensive. If you are thinking about the area between the uni. and city centre then be warned it has become very "studenty" in previous years and is likely to become even more so. If you want any information feel free to e-mail me. Try logging on to upmystreet.co.uk .You could find some helpful information there. Good luck.

They are building lots of apartments in the marina area of the city which seem to be nice, its called Meridian Quay. The link below has a bit of info and stuff, you could try mumbles which is in Swansea and its like a sea-side resort but im not sure if its quite close to the university.

I lived in Swansea for 28 years and the best thing about it is - nothing. If you like small minded people then you will love it.
