You better read your policy because it's probably in there somewhere. However, don't give up yet. If you have absolutely hit a brick wall with your adjuster then ask (politely) to speak with his/her manager. Explain your delima and ask for options like perhaps depositions from friends and family about your stolen items when recipets aren't availible. You know, it's always possible that photos and reciepts are NOT required and you just happen to have drawn a dumba$$ adjuster (hey, it happens all the time). Keep asking for upper management until you get a satisfactory answer. Remember, don't get combative. Try working WITH your company as much as possible. Calling them crooks on the internet isn't going to win you any points and trashes your credibility

For the same reason any other insurance company requires them, to substantiate your claim. Otherwise anyone with a claim could say things like "When the car burned up, I mad 17 million dollars worth of uncut diamonds in the trunk!" Unless you can show a receipt for $17 million of uncut diamonds, chances are they won't pay off.

You have to PROVE you had the items you say were stolen. Anyone and everyone knows that you keep seperate records of your personal belongings outside of your home in the event something like this happens. If you're expecting to be compensated for the items, don't you think you should be able to prove you owned them? Or do you think they should believe you and give you a check?

Perhaps you're right..

But it's only COMMON SENSE that if your house gets robbed, that you take pictures for proof of how it looked and what was taken.

This is also recommended in the unfortunate event of damage caused by natural disasters (Hurricanes, Flood, Tornado.. bla bla). If that happens they'll probably ask for pics too.

Dear lord- i love when people try to blame their stupidity on others.

So when you got this home owner insurance policy you just thought that if anything happened to your stuff that you could just "claim" all the stuff you had in your house?

Dont you think that people would just put they had random stuff that they didnt really have if this was the case? "Um yea.. my 5000 laptop was stolen and um.. yea.. my 50,000 necklace"

You have to be an ADULT and keep receipts etc of what you own to prove they existed.

Take this as a very expensive lesson.
