I used to like him and I told him and he promised he wouldnt tell but he did. I got mad but he felt really guilty and said sorry and now we are friends again. I still liked him a lot after wards and he stared at me a lot and smiled and we still talk. But now I dont like him anymore. Did I make a good choice to get over him?

Why are you ashamed of liking him? If you are as wishy-washy as you seem in this question, then you should be glad that someone likes you enough to brag about it. Get over yourself!!!! He sounds great! You should Never claim to like someone that you act ashamed of. That isn't real when you do that. Now, when you like someone, DON't Ask them not to tell anyone. That just makes YOU look bad.
