im thinking of getting a ipod (30gig) but i was wondering if i had say 500 songs on there and maybe 15 pics how many hours of video could i fit on it??

ok lets calculate
mp3s, Videos and pictures

30 GB = almost 29800 MB
each song is 4-6 MB so in avarage 5 MB
so 30 GB will have = 5960 songs "ONLY"
500* 5 = 2500 MB for your songs
15*10max=150 MB for your pics
29800-((500*5)+(15*max5)) = 27150 MB is free
with the remaning you will have 4654.2 Min of Video
that means 77.5 Hours
with respect to the legnth of movies 700 Mb in two hours

MPEG holds more amount of MBs than AVI

each picture 50 Kb- 10 MB depending on the resolution and this is easy to change with ur computer to compress or make the picture smaller to have more space in ur IPOD

The amount of pics and videos you put on the ipod depends on the quality of the pics/vids. But 30 gigs is plenty of room for your music.

I agree with Loonita for a small exception that the I pod only plays Mpeg 4 video not avi nor mpeg.
