Spanish in Mexico is not incorrect spanish but it's different from the way it is spoken in Spain. You just have to decide which one you want to learn.

The best way to learn Spanish is by going to school (they teach you proper grammar) and then you can also practice with native speakers for pronunciation. The Spanish spoken in Mexico is not wrong, it's just a bit different than the one spoken in Spain. Similar to British English vs American English.

Mexico has 1 Nobel Prize winner in Literature. More than 1 Premio Cervantes and Premio Príncipe de Asturias winners in Literature. Mexican writers like Juan Rulfo, Octavio Paz, José Revueltas and Carlos Fuentes are recognised throughout the Spanish speaking world. And they write in SPANISH. The Spanish spoken and written in Mexico is proper Spanish. You may want to learn Spanish as used in Mexico with its local characteristics instead of Spanish as used in Spain (Which part of Spain, by the way?. Andalusian Spaniards speak differently from those of Ca stile) or as used in Argentina and Uruguay, or that of the Caribbean. The best way to learn Spanish as spoken in Mexico is to locate a school where the teachers are Mexican born.
Addendum. Of course, literary Spanish in Mexico is different from street-speech, the same as in every other country (even cities). A Cockney's words are hardly in the level with Maugham, nor a Texan's drawl, nor a good o'l boy's from Alabama slang has anything in common with Hemingway or O'Neill. But the question is how to speak Spanish as spoken in Mexico and in Mexico there are two ways, again as it happens elsewhere, a proper and an improper one. Street talk is learnt in the street, with the families, with the friends. It is never taught at a school.

I have the Learn to Speak: Spanish made by elanguage, but I also read Spanish and talk to people in Spanish. If you don't use it, you won't learn it.

If you want to learn Spanish don´t learn the one spoken by people in the street which is full of slang. Go to proper lessons and practice with people who speak without those slangs.
thgurkha is right in the sense of having good writers but if you read their literature, it is written in Spanish and not in the slang that we normally see here spoken by Mexicans.

going to websites is not always the best thing to do what you need to do is have a friend who speaks spanish and they can teach you that way. Its better if all day they only speak spanish that way you pick up faster.

Do you learn a language to communicate or to be "proper"? Learn the language (or the way it's spoken) most locally used, regardless of its appearance of not being proper. Once mastering it, you can learn the proper way.

The best way of learning spanish is having a spanish speaker friend..., and i guess it doesn't matter where does he/she come from...any spanish....(Spain, Cuba, Colombia, Argentina, even México) is 0k, actually, there's no big difference between one and other...we can understand each other easily...
