This is an old topic that comes up every day on this board. So, I'll just remind you that only Porsche and Lexus were rated higher in initial quality by JD Power. That's right, they even beat out Toyota. They have the longest warranty and the most competitive prices, plus they've become quite stylish the last 2-3 years.

Just bought an 01 elantra GT for my daughter to replace the Sentra she crashed. The insurance rental was an 06 Sonata. Vastly improved. The little GT is a hoot and a better car than the Sentra. I was astonished at the quality for the price, more so the real people reviews some of whom may well work for Hyundai. At Edmunds there were hundreds of reviews and very few were negative. In any case probably better than any domestic car out there. If not for the stigma based on the early days I suspect the qualifier in many reviews "for the money" wouldn't be there. Can you buy any other car out there for under 20K with leather, sunroof 30+ mpg? No. As I said, vastly improved. Are the big three paying attention? No. BTW, assembled in the US. Sentra, Mexico, GM and Ford, mexico. So go buy one. I like the one I got for my daughter so much I'm thinking about getting one too.

They are very competitive in quality now. Admittedly, years ago the Hyundai Corporation thought all they had to offer Americans was a cheap car. They learned we expect, nay demand more, and changed their entire approach. Their new car warranty is unequaled, and a preowned vehicle from a dealership often carries as much warranty as some of the new vehicles. There are some great sites on-line to compare features side by side before you go for a test drive.
If you are considering buying from a private individual, you should be sure to get maintenance records on any make vehicle.....an irresponsible person can take the most reliable, quality vehicle and kill it by not doing the required maintenance....and in only about 10,000 miles. Buyer beware in private party sales of any make!

you can get a lemon with any brand of car-including the honda. go to edmonds.com and you will find out that all cars seem to have some kind of problem according to their owners. We owned a 1988 hyundai excel that had over 200,000 miles on it when it was totaled by a red-light runner. We had the original clutch, transmission, engine on it and no problems. We owned an 05 civic-very disappointed. alot of problems that were fixed under warranty. sold it-good resale value. If you maintain your car it should be good for a long time

ABSOLUTELY.
All car companies makes a lemon or 2 a day. Asking if you're going to get a lemon is totally irrevelant. I recommend you checking out Hyundai Factory in Alabama... man those Sonatas and Santa Fes are sweeeeeeeeet.

Do yourself a favor and buy new. New cars come with warranty's and can be easily repaired at the dealer's expense - not yours.
New Hyundai's are better than the old one's. And they get better every year. Hyundai's rank third behind only 2 other automakers in terms of initial quality in a JD power study.

Excellent vehicles, especially the 07's. Take one for a test drive u will be surprised. 04 to 07 excellent, 2000 to 04 above average, 95 to 2000 average.........before 95 hit and miss. 07 Santa Fe AWD 3.3 is sweet.

i would say that they are better than they were 10 yrs ago when in certain weather the sheet metal would warp on their car but i would recommend 2006 and up vehicles from Hyundai because of the warranty and because the company has put Lots of money into making a better product.

They are much better than they used to be. I knew 3 people who had older models (late 80's to mid 90's) and they were crap. I know a few people who have them now. They are much better. They are one of the brands I am looking into for my wife's next car.
