Duplicate the layer or background first, close one of them (press F7 to bring up the layers in case you dont know) by shutting the eye at the side of the high lighted layer.

then using the magic wand tool, select either the internal area, or the background area. dont forget to keep control on the antialiasing. once you have marqued the area you want cut, either hit 'del' to delete it completly or use "control + X" to cut it out and then "control + V" to paste it back into the document if you need to reuse it.

should the image be complex, then you can use the lasso tool for complet selection, and if you need a perfectly cutout image, then i suggest that you use the path tool.

P.S. You can always mail me should you face further difficulties in getting this done

Use the lasso to create an outline around you in the picture. Then hit "V" to switch to the move tool, and drag the selected section. Or you could cut and paste to a new background.

There are a few different things:
*Magic Wand (see how much it selects) and at the top click on the "add to selection" button so it'll continue to select without unselecting your previous area where the "marching ants" (moving dots) are.
*Filter>Extract
*Basic eraser

Those are the ones I've thought of so far.
