My cat is about 5 years old. This funny thing started happening a couple weeks ago. She is part manx, so she doesn't have a tail. Theres a spot just above here "tail" that if you rub it or scratch it she starts licking herself. Before she used to just get happy when you rubbed there, but now she gets all funny. Anyone know why...or is it just like the spot on dogs that make their leg twitch???

My roommates cat, Butter does that when you rub him in a particular spot. We call it his self-cleaning button. Its just one of those quirky things cats do that we love them for :)

My 3 year old male manx will do the same thing when I scratch the base of where his tail would be. He has a nub. It just depends on the cat....someone elses cat does it, your cat isn't alone!

Kinda like the spot that makes the legs twitch. Most cats have either one of two reactions, if its the same place I think it is, the first is to stick the butt straight in the air, head down and meow like crazy (waiting for mating) the second is to attempt to eat your hand (no, you may not mate with me)

Its funny either way I think, and does them no harm

It seems all cats are sensitive on or about that spot. A comic on TV once called it the butt button, as their butt seems to rise when petted there. I'm sure it gets more sensitive as they get older. It is cute though. Tail or no tail, the butt button still exists.

sensitive spot, i would guess. as the animal ages, ticklish (sp?) spots emerge where they weren't before. this is also true for humans. possible too that she could've hurt herself, the spot is sore & reacts to when it is touched. best thing, if you are really concerned, is to check w/a reliable vet, ok? i'm sure she'll be ok. manx are way cool.

Their central nervous system is at the base of their tail, if she isn't fixed and is going into heat it will be more sensitive in that area, but being she's 5 it may also be her age they just tend to get more sensitive in that area the older they get.

It's called a hot spot. You can get medicine at the vet to treat this and give your cat some relief.

My cats do the same thing. I think it's natural for them to do so.

could have something to do with it being the area male cats bite females when mating or she's ticklish.
