is there a particular time of year when buying new/replacement windows is cheaper?

Winter. The companies are desperate to keep their workers active. You can work out really good deals, IF you're willing to put up with the weather.

The best time to buy cheap replacement windows is when you can find them on sale. Check with some of the building supply houses in your area and see when they are going to have a clearance sale. There is one such dealer in our city who often has windows and doors that he custome made or ordered for customers and they were never picked up. You can buy them at a good price because he wants to get them out of his way. I am watching now for a certain door because it costs more than I am willing to pay. The windows in my den came from such a sale. They are double pane windows (very expensive) and I got them for about the same price as cheap windows.
