when there should be hundreds of thousands of US troops rooting out the real culprit on the Afghan/Pakistan border. It makes no sense to me whatsoever.

Hussein did attempt to kill Bush senior when Clinton was in office (Clinton retaliated with air strikes).

Since the first Gulf war, Iraq had been under siege.

Now, Iran is under siege. The US has them surrounded from both sides. Any excuse, and they can go in.

Why Iran? Because the US, under Carter, supported a Saddam like dictator there. Then, when the people overthrew the dictator, they turned on some Americans there and took hostages. Many Americans never forgave.

Now, I guess the idea was to try and redo history, and see what would have happened if America sided against the brutal dictator. And, potentially invade Iran and get revenge for the hostages and the humiliation (Iran also sponsored other bombings).

That will also start to cut off Russia. We could eventually have a spread out invasion force, and with the help of satellite and submarine technology be able to win a nuclear war.

The UK? It's not very strategically located, the US already has troops there anyway, and the terror cells there are mainly inward looking.

In 2003, the world's biggest threat was Saddam Hussein. He had reconstituted (to a smaller degree) his capacity to research and develop chemical and nuclear weapons, and he had preserved his capability of rebuilding his pre-1991 chemical industry for developing dual-use chemicals at industrial volumes.

He was also training terrorists inside his borders by the thousands.

After we overthrew his government, we reverted to the "you broke it, you fix it" doctrine, and we're almost done fixing it.

(The CIA published a detailed study of his chemical weapons programs in 2004, here's the link. It's pretty detailed despite our self-imposed collective amnesia.)

No matter what happens they will NEVER win a war against a people who are honoured to die, these people have been fighting in wars for centuries, they can never be defeated, and as soon as one is dead another just rises up in his place. This war can never be won unless everyone of them were completely wiped out and that's not very logical is it?
Praise our troops!

We're in Iraq for oil. Although all those other reasons will get him a little support here & there. Without the vast oil reserves in Iraq, our economy is very much in danger of collapse. We've sold all the treasuries we can. What's hard to understand is how people can ignore all the evidence that we're there for oil. Blood for oil is pretty uncomfortable so we ignore it.

So you honestly think there were no radical muslim groups in Iraq? They are the WMD. Planes flown by jihadists into buildings are WMD my friend. Read a history book.

I suppose you'd rather fight them on our soil?
