so i just found out that i got accepted to North Carolina State University! :] (I live in NJ and havent visited yet) but I was wondering if anyone lives near there (its in Raleigh) if there are any ASPCA's, rescues or doggy daycares around I could volunteer at? Right now I volunteer at a small one (in NJ) about 45 mins. from my house, and I just LOVE it, so I know I want to do that when I move. Any info would be great.

Oh, and I am going to school for business and want to eventually open up my own doggy daycare. and I wanted some feed back on what classes I should sign up for in college? and what you would want to see in a doggy daycare if you had to leave your dog there for a couple hours or a week? Or what is another business I could possibly open to help animals?

If you need anymore details, I will add some and just check back.

Any advice would help!
Thanks :]

I posted this question again because i only got 2 answers.

any more advice?

As far as opening your own daycare. I'd definately take some animal behavior courses. You'll need to these to be able to group dogs together, see warning signs of possible trouble. Some basic medical knowledge, such as first aid, and medication giving are other good things to have.

Also you'll need to check out zoning laws where you plan to open the daycare. And other local ordinances that might pertain to what you are doing. Special permits may be needed.

If I were to take my dogs to a daycare, I'd want all the other dogs to be up to date on vaccines, or at least have titers done to show that they have enough immunity to the commonly vaccinated for diseases. (Titer testing checks the level of immunity a dog has to certain diseases by using a blood test, rather than just giving a vaccine every year. This is fine by me for being up to date if the dog passes the titer test, of course this can't be done with rabies as that is government regulated.)

I'd want someone with knowledge of dog behavior and basic medical skills. Enough to care for my dog while its being transported to the vet in an emergency. Someone who would group dogs based on size, activity level, and temperment. Alot of attention given to the dogs, not just stuffing them in a kennel and leaving them there alone 24/7.

Of course you'll also need to look into getting forms. Examples, releases for vet care if a pet becomes injured while with you, in the case of ederly pets you might want a release form if the dog happens to die of old age while its in your care, the list goes on.

I know there are several books out about opening a dog daycare. Of course at the moment I can't think of there names. You might want to take a look at the book section http://www.sitstay.com or http://www.tiaspetplace.com I've got books available there as well.

I live in a much smaller town, and there is a Humane Society here. I'm sure there would be something simillar or even several places in Raleigh. I think it's now the headquarters for the American Kennel Club.

You are so very thoughtful to do that volunteer work. I'd come homw with all the animals.

The SPCA of Wake County is always looking for volunteers to help at the pet adoption center (south side of town).

If you are thinking of volunteering, you can also find paid work in the area.

For example, a lot of the local animal hospitals also board pets.

The local PetSmart has a pet hotel and day care.

Get yourself bonded, and you can work as a self-employed pet housesitter - there is definitely a demand here for that too.

Good luck.

relies upon on the place you're placed, and despite while you're authorized to do corporation, bonded, and insured to guard you and your customer whilst it comes to mishaps. while you're no longer authorized, bonded, and insured, you won't be in a position to justify charging lots in any respect (despite you negotiate with the dogs's proprietor, possibly basically isn't extra beneficial than $10 an afternoon). while you're authorized, bonded, and insured, you will might desire to examine the going costs on your particular section. Your facilities would be worth extra someplace like manhattan city than they could be someplace like North Dakota, working example. upload: i understand one individual who does abode-based dogs sitting in her abode. She is authorized, bonded, and insured, and makes use of enforceable contracts outlining her primary jobs and those of the owner. She is likewise a expert behaviorist. She costs $20 an afternoon, in line with dogs. without corporation license, coverage, and a published bond, $10 could be the main i might pay in line with day to a non-expert, have been I keen to entrust my canines to this way of individual.
