There are muscles that propel the food through your digestion.

When your stomach is empty, the gastric juices produce gasses and the muscles try to propel the gas, as there is no food. That is what is making the rumbling sounds.

I hope this helps!

It is because you are hungry. Many people don't know that stomachs also do mechanical digestion. When your stomach is empty, the walls of your stomach grind on each other making it "grumble"
