Absolutely. Shingles is caused by Varicella-Zoster-Virus (VZV), and once initial infection occurs, viruses travels in a retrograde direction to remain dormant in the dorsal root ganglion of the nerve it has infected. It becomes reactivated by exposure to certain environmental agents, stress, or immunosuppression -- the viruses travel in anterograde fashion to the skin band the nerve supplies and is why shingles occurs in a band-like fashion.
So, as long as one virus remains within the ganglion, it can recur when stimulated to reactivate.

Shingles comes from the virus hiding inside the person's body, not from an outside source. I got them over 1yr ago and still have them they are slowly going away but was told by my doctor that once they do go dormant then they will not come back

yes. I just watched this thing on the news. Many people have found relief with valtrex and zolverax (sp?)--medications that help people with herpes. Or because shingles is a form of chicken pox you might be able to get a vaccine.

I have had a few doctors tell me that NO you should only get shingles once, but you can get them again although it is very rare.

Yes, it is from a virus (herpes zoster virus) that will always be in your system. Stress and illnesses tend to cause a flair up.
