War is a futile effort to resolve problems. War or other violent acts only lead to more violence, despite the effort to solve the initial conflict(s). War is evidence of human kind's savage and brutal instinct.

No. They are demonstrably false.

War is certainly not a futile effort to resolve problems: Ask the Cartheginians how futile war was to solve their dispute with Rome. Ask the Japanese and the Germans how futile war was to solve their disputes with Russia, France, Great Britain, and the United States. Ask Saddam Hussein how futile war was.

Same question for the 2nd statement - At the end of the Cartheginian wars, there was no more Carthage. No more violence of any kind. After WWII, the violence relating to that conflict was quite over, and the violence causing the deaths of millions of Jews, Gypsies, et. al. had ended.

Quite the contrary, war can be evidence of mankind's humanity. The American's current war against terrorists is evidence of this - We are expending billions of dollars to MINIMIZE casualties. We provide medical care for our enemies injured in combat with our troopers.

The Holocause is an evidence of human's savagry. So are the brutal examples of ethnic cleansing in Rwanda, Bosnia, and all the other spots on Earth. So are terror attacks. Many nations are waging war to END these horrors. Sometimes the only response to insane violence is...violence.

You cannot reason with unreasonable people.

1. War is a futile effort to resolve problems - Disagree
War is the only way to make another country do something. Some problems can't be resolved with talking or threats.

2. War or other violent acts only lead to more violence - Agree
I don't feel the second part of your question has anything to do with the first, but yes, violence against a group of people only encourages them to keep fighting.

3. War is evidence of human kind's savage and brutal instinct - Agree

Do you have a better solution? Why don't you become president and then you can handle the next conflict that comes along. Unfortunately, not everything can be resolved with words otherwise there wouldn't be violence in the world. But your right humans are naturally savage. But war is still effective and has a purpose and a place.

No, I don't agree.

War is a necessary evil, brought about by man's natural instincts. While not the ideal solution, sometimes war is the only solution. Had we not gone to war in 1941, the Japanese would have ended up controlling the Pacific half of the world while the Nazis would have ended up controlling the European part of the world, and who knows what would have happened to North America?

Had we not gone to war in 1950, the communists would be in control of the entire Korean penninsula, and just possibly Japan as well.

Had we not gone to war in 1991, the Iraqis and Saddam Hussein would now be controlling Saudi Arabia and the majority of the world's oil supply.

Like it or not, war is sometimes the only solution.

I would say, never start a fight, but always finish one.

If you can't get someone to calm down, you have to punch back.

War is usually started as a futile effort to resolve problems. But when the problem is a war against your own people, sometimes the choice is kill or be killed (or perhaps kill or be enslaved).

Maybe today, yes. But, I don't think because of the war itself as much as the people we are fighting. They hate us already and this has inflamed them even more, including their neighboring countries.

But, sometimes war is necessary. If we are attacked, we HAVE to fight back lest we appear weak, thus making us an easier target. I mean, we have been fighting wars since the dawn of man and I don't see that changing anytime soon. It would have to take a worldwide catastrophic event to make us behave differently.

All I can say is that violence + violence = more violence.

The problem I see is that we are humans we claim to be the smartest things on the planet yet, we can not find a better solution to war.

to a certain extent i agree. violence usually only leads to more violence in the future. the world is never going to be a completely peacful place. those brutal instincts however have helped keep the human race alive.

Sure. But it's a good way to go into an inferior chaotic nation and steal their natural resources, in fact, it's the only way.
