It's a bit bigger than a piece of grit, but it's kind of embedded into the skin. Just noticed it when playing with my ballbags, and expected it to be just another pimple, but then realised it was a black dot. Could it be something serious, like cancer? Or should I just wash more? Is it worth going to the doc?

Hmm, Could be a black head...or, could be the beginning of a Boil or an Ingrown hair, (I work in the health care field), Its not uncommon at all, for men or women to get ingrown hairs or boils in the genital area.
Try sitting in a hot bath, and then put a Hot Cloth on it, put some Neosporin on it, If it is a boil (or blackhead) trying to come up, this could shorten the length of it..
If none of this helps, and it is still there in a week or so, maybe check with a doctor...

I agree with the second guy that answered, I mean it doesn't sound like any kind of crazy std or anything. If it starts to hurt, or doesn't go away on it's own in the next couple weeks, then you should mention it to your doctor at your next visit. Other than that don't worry so much. And I think it's really funny that you said you were playing with your balls... I'm glad I'm not a guy!

Dude, you should play with your nut sack 2x a day to keep up with your black dots.
