If your gown is strapless and a full ballgown skirt, your maids should be in slimmer, even straight/slim gowns or you'll look like a bunch of gals from Savannah on a float! The nicest weddings I've seen have had all the girls in same colour and same length of gown/dress but each girl chose a dress most flattering to her - so long as it wasn't fancier than the bride. I;'ve also seen a fabulous summer wedding where the bride had a sophisticated, beaded gown and each of the 8 maids had a different colour of gown -all pale hues, like spring flowers or ice cream sherbets. The gowns were all floor length but different syles that suited each girl's shape. They all carried white baby carnations and mums with lots of dark greenery and each wore a halo of white flowers in hair. Truly a garden look! My niece had an elegant long gown with long sleeves , very un-fussy, and she had all 4 of her attendants in cocktail length dark green dresses bought off the rack at Macy's. Just be sure you are the star. Keep the girls' dresses as plain as possible because you want people to talk about YOUR dress. You could also consider buying each girl a black straight (pencil) long skirt to match the guys' black tuxes or suits, and then they could wear white blouses or a colour blouse you choose. Everyone looks good in a plain long skirt!

Its actually becoming more and more popular for bridesmaids to wear different but similar dresses. That way they look good in their dresses since they can pick a style that works for them and feel comfortable. I wouldnt have your bridemaids wear a strapless gown but other than that anything will go with your strapless gown. My idea would be to visit a local David's Bridal with your bridesmaid and have them try on dresses so you can see them all together to make sure that one style doesnt clash with another. If you are having them wear long dresses then they should all wear long dresses and vice versa with tea length.
Hope this helped. Congrats and Good Luck!

That different style/same color dress thing is a newer trend and I have to say I am not a fan of it. I prefer uniformity and think it looks better.
Anyway, I would suggest ALL of you go to the store and the girls decide together. You get final say though, so if you dont like the dress they choose they will have to keep looking. You should also pick the color, thats your call (but be mindful that pale girls dont look that great in light pinks and yellows and dark girls dont look that awesome in oranges, try to pick a flattering color for each girl) I will say that I was in bridal party this past summer and we were all different shapes and heights, we were able to find a dress (two piece) that looked amazing on each of us. So they do exist, you just have to find it.
Good luck!

You may want to consider having your bridesmaids wear the same color dress but in different styles that best fit their body shape. David's Bridal has an entire line of dresses where bridesmaids can mix and match tops and bottoms in the same color (I'd recommend they have the same skirt). You may also want to check your local bridal shops as well. As for coordinating with your gown, your bridesmaids can wear pretty much any style as long as matches the formality of your wedding.

All my bridesmaids were totally different in body size so they wore the same color in a different style. I used www.dessy.com and www.aftersix.com-they have links to each other's website and I highly recommend either one! If you are going with the same dress, then strapless A-line looks good on almost everyone. Try to stay away from halter and sweetheart necklines. Also, try to stick with a heavier fabric like a silk/satin or taffeta. Not everyone looks good in silk, chiffon or georgette b/c those tend to cling more to the body. Good luck!

Why not let the girls all choose their own dress?
I stood up at a very formal wedding and the bride told us all to go out and get ourselves a black floor length gown. Whatever looked best on us made her happy. Then we all had to buy the same silver shoes. The wedding was beautiful and all of us looked great in dresses that flattered each of our body types.
And the best part? We have all worn the dresses again!

I'll just say ditto to Veronica's suggestion, it is what I would have said. I've seen photos of a bridal party like this, and it looks really pretty - one girl is strapless, another with short sleeves, another with a jacket, etc. - looks really classy. Your style of dress doesn't affect theirs.

You could go to Davidsbridal.com and check out the "seperates" section. Each girl could wear a different top and they could all wear the same skirt. In my sisters wedding we did this. We each chose the top we felt most comfortable in and thats the way we chose. We all had very different body types. None of us were even close in the height catagory. It turned out very nice.

i am a big fan of letting girls choose their own dresses...so many dress makers these days of tons of styles in the same color.
for example, alfred angelou offers all of his bridesmaid dresses in the same colors...so why don't you choose the color, and let each girl choose her own style?
a good website for discount designer dresses is houseofbrides.com.
you can still take your girls into a shop to get fitted, and then order their dresses online...it'll save you a ton of money!

i think of a hundred and eighty greenbacks for purely a Brides Maid gown is ridiculous. They nevertheless might desire to get shoes hair make up host showers and events. i think of the gown might desire to be a hundred and twenty or much less.
