I think it is because watching somone crashing into the wall gets your adrenline pumping. It is such a great sport to watch, and is very thrilling. To all the NASCAR fans out there, keep beeing rabid, it works for this sport.

i dont think "rabid" is the word of choice here.
i think it should be "dedicated".
nascar fans are very loyal to the drivers, products sponsored, and other nascar fans.
we nascar fans get together on friday, saturday,or sunday to take part in a long lived tradition of drinking beer and getting rowdy.if that makes us,in ur words rabid, then that is what it is.i would rather be rabid while drinking a few beers with a few buddies than sitting at the house doing nothing and twiddleing my thumbs while bored to death because i have no friends to enjoy the day with except a poodle that i named hector.
nascar fans will give the shirts off their backs to others if they need it.there is never animosity between nascar fans, maybe towards other drivers, but not fans.
do u realize how much money it costs to go to a nascar event?with 3-5 people,i will say around $800 dollars, and that is cheap.
motel rooms or camping grounds-$100 a night
gas-$2.20/gallon if not more
food-$30-$70 a meal if not more
tickets- atleast $100 apiece
beer-if bought inside the track $5 for 20 oz.
souvineers-Tshirt $25-$35 hat- $15-$30
just a few things for u to ponder.

I predict the rabidness will start to cease once Toyota gets their hooks in. How boring. They have all the resources which every team has access to. And the drivers that defected, is there no brand loyalty anymore?! I wish for Toyota to never win a race but I know that won't happen with their resources. Once they take over like they have in Trucks I am outta there! I got re interested in baseball again so that's what I will be rabid over!
Go Tigers!

Do you mean rabid as mean or die-hard? I feel us NASCAR fans have to defend ourselves a lot more than any other sports fan. LIke the one guy here is using stereotypes against us right away because he doesn't watch it. We take flack like that all the time. You also could mean rabid, in die-hard about our drivers. Which I love about NASCAR, people have their favorites and completely stand by them. But also they have the drivers they hate as much as they love they're favorites. So you're rooting for your guy as hard as you're rooting against someone. One thing people don't understand if you have two drivers that hate each other driving next to each other at 200 MPH, they still have to respect and trust each other. Or they both could crash and/or die. It's intense.

Rabid, sounds like a dog with a very bad disease. WE are DEDICATED. It is very exhilarating. It is fun. It makes us feel good. We have something in common to talk about at work besides the weather and work work work. It solves a communication gap with the career people in the office because they are all NASCAR fans , too. AND WE ARE REDNECK want-to-be's-(sorry had to throw that in, there are some questions I have answered today that referred to that term--- what is wrong with that term anyway. They just used it in a very negatory way).

With the exception of golf, tennis, etc. where the fans are "low key", every sport has an enthusiastic following. If you don't believe me consider world class soccer events, the world series, tailgating at a Bears or Packers game just to name a few. The fans here get just as wild as NASCAR fans, why, we freaking love cars, speed, drinking, eating, and action just to name a few. There are others I could name but I would probably offend someone, so heres to another great season of racing!

Define rabid.
Racing for 4 hours at 190 mph. losing 10 lbs a race just from sweating. Having a camera shoved in your face at the end of every race. Living in a motorhome for 10 months. driving to over 10 states in a few months.
If that is the definition of rabid then, i guess, yeah. It is.

We are very involved in the sport, and support NASCAR, in their decisions that they make. If we didn't have NASCAR to make rules, and to make sure the drivers and teams respect each other, then the whole sport would be chaos. NASCAR makes sure that each team is playing fairly, so that all the drivers competing will have a fair chance of winning a race that they deserve to win. It is for these reasons that I support NASCAR in the decisions that they make.

We aren't 'rabid', many of us just have a lot of passion for the sport.
