I have had cats my whole life, which is over 30 years and you are right. I have a black cat that is the most loving cat I have ever met. He demands love from myself and my husband and he won't have it with anyone else. When people come over he doesn't want to have anything to do with them. And when he is in the mood for love he gets right in my face and uses his paws to get my attention. My husband will lay him on his back and rub his tummy and he goes to sleep. For such a "fraidy" cat he is the most loving out of the 4 we have now and any that I've had in the past. Maybe there is a black cat genetics thing out there?

I've had both types of black cats. Loving and aloof. It seems to be a matter of "humanization" of the kitten at about five to six weeks. If you handle him/her at that time it will probably turn out to be very loving and social. If not ..... well then you've got a cute cat that sits across the room on that chair in the sun but not on your lap.
I've not noticed that colour has anything to do with it.

I have three black cats and they are all very affectionate and very smart. Black cats are reportedly more intelligent than other breeds because they have had to work harder to survive. Black cats have been hunted and persecuted for centuries because they were thought to be evil; therefore, the black cats that did survive needed to be smarter than their counterparts of other colors in order to not be caught and killed. So I suppose it's just a matter of genetics--surviving black cats were usually smart and they passed that intelligence along with their dominant coat color when they mated. The affectionate side comes from the intellect--they are smart enough to be grateful when a loving human takes care of them. (I'm not saying that cats of other breeds and colors aren't smart. It just seems to be much more common in black cats.)

I've had all colors and types of cats. The answer is no. Cats are very much individual beings and as such, I find that the only rule of thumb regarding cat lovability is that loving people have more lovable cats. If you frolic your cat a lot it will likely be frisky, etc.

Well, that just means you've never met our black cat, also known as Psycho Cat. His favorite thing is to roll around and look cute so you'll pet him, and then he attacks. Much blood, much pain. Loving? No, but we love him anyway. I also have two grey tiger stripes, which in my opinion, are way more loveable and do not send anyone to the hospital for stitches.

I have a black male cat, and he is as sweet as can be. He is always gentle with his paws, and even gives me and my husband hugs by wrapping his arms around our neck. The last time we took him to the vet, the vet told us that black male cats tend to have a temperament similar to that of dogs. Our cat is actually very dog-like as well (frolics toward you like a puppy when you call his name, growls at other cats rather than hiss). Maybe this has something to do with it....

some canines are not cat fanatics. I truthfully have a cat who likes to cuddle and groom my canine, yet my canine hates him and only facilitates some grooms and a few cuddles and then chases him out of the room. To them nevertheless that's a interest because of the fact the "play" keeps on occurring daily. They tolerate one yet another as appropriate as they might. i think that my canine will miss the cat if he ever dies and viceversa.
