Best way is to keep them clean and sterile as often as possible. Rinse your mouth with mouthwash or peroxide (do not swallow!) a few times a day. If you can't do that, salt water is very effective, and maybe easier to do when out and about. Just go grab some salt packets from any fast food joint, and mix it with water whereever you can get it, gargle and spit.

I find that they heal much faster, and hurt less, when I rinse frequently. After each meal, and every couple hours in between, and of course before and after sleep.

There are different kind of mouth sores, but a common type is the painful one called an apthous ulcer.

How are apthous ulcers treated?

Whatever the cause, (and there may be more than one), most recent studies show that apthous ulcers respond best to steroid therapy (anti-inflammatory). The types of steroids used will depend upon the number, size and location of the lesion as well the response to treatments. Topical applications (ointments, creams, mouth-wash) are used as first-line treatments and they have few side effects. Topical applications include Flucocinomide (Lidex), Clobetasol Propionate (Temovate) and Dexamethasone elixer (Decadron). Prednisone which is taken in pill form is prescribed if there are several major ulcers or if the response to topical treatment is poor. Because the exact cause of apthous ulcers is unknown, apthous ulcers can be very difficult to treat. In fact, some patients may experience a relapse or recurrence of these ulcers.

There are different things that you can use for mouth sores.Try warm salt water-1 teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water. Do not drink but rinse out mouth several times a day.
Peroxide also is something that I have used. Rub on mouth sores. It will burn some.
Bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) also will work. This will also burn some. I have used all of these but not at the same time.

Hi,

Are you talking about the short term kind or the long term recurring type?

Short term.. go to chinese medical halls and look for this thing called XI GUA SHUANG and apply religiously.

For long term cure so that it goes away, you can try a detox. My sister and another fren got rid of this problem completely when they did a detox.

And the detox is simple. All you need to do is three things.

Number one, follow the detox programme which requires you to change your diet a little bit. Eg, take more vege and less meat and seafoods.

Number two, use 1 minute a day to take some natural health foods consumable even by babies and pregnant women that will enhance the speed and the effect of the detox.

Number three, drink lots of water to flush the toxins out and help your body start to accept water.

And that's it.

The rest is up to you.

So what do you think? ;)
