I want to hook a set of speakers to just a cd player, like one that holds 3 or more disks, but cannot seem to find one online. Maybe that is because it doesn't exist? Do all home type cd players have to be hooked up to recievers that then have the speakers hooked up to them?

Bose makes a stand alone CD/AMFM unit. It can be played through its internal speakers or you can option it out to external speakers. Very expensive though.

pretty much. Unless you go for a shelf system that is all integrated. Or you could look at the Bose CD player, which has integrated speakers.

OK, but do you have video hooked up? On my system I have the audio signal connected to the receiver from my DVD player and VCR. But the video signal I send directly to the TV and not the receiver, so your TV has to be able to accept two video inputs for their signals. If not try sending the video signal to your receiver, that way you only have to send one video signal to the TV. But it sounds like you forgot to connect the video signal, and that is all that is wrong.
