I've had my cat for about four years and he's always been a good companion. I have two dogs that I've had for two years and they get along in the way cats and dogs do.
Anyways, the past week or so the cat has been peeing on my bed...at first I thought it was the dog until I witnessed the cat doing his deed TODAY! He's never done anything like this before. Why is he doing this? The only thing I know to do is put him down (thats what I've been told to do) and I really don't want that. Any other alternatives or is that it?

EXTRA: I am taking him to the vet tomorrow and always planned on doing so. He has been neutered as well. Thank you for the UTI suggestions...his litter has been changed to crystals.

my cat did the same thing!!! she did it in front of me twice!!! i was sooo mad.
1. if she sits by a window a lot she could be seeing another cat outside so she is marking her territoy
2. there is a new sent in the house and she dosent like it
3. if you recently changed her kitty litter
4. she is upset about somthing and is showing you think of what has changed.
sloutions:
1. when she does that take her to the bathroom and put her in the litter box, do not punish her cuz cats dont get it and they will just get more mad and keep peeing,
2. when you do see her go to the potty in the litter box praise her pet her
3. do not show her any attention after she pees on your bed
4. try to give her extra attention
she will eventualy stop...my cat did it becuase she did not like the dog i used to live with, but she stoped so there is hope! you just have to get into your kittys head! good luck

I have to agree with aka Annie. My son's cat had a UTI(FLUTD). Poor Andy was rubbing along the carpet and peeing every where BUT the litter box. Once your cat has a UTI...it is more liable to have another. The vet can give you medication to take care of your cat. Don't put the poor thing down. If it's been a good companion for 4 years, take the time to figure out what's wrong.

Last year my beautiful Manx cat Theodore went out for the evening and never came back. I love cats and the house didn't feel the same without one, so I picked up Lola from a rescue centre. She was very frightened and would pee all over the house. I found Cat Spraying No More on the internet and the techniques worked almost immediately. I haven't had a problem with Lola since. Amazing!
Can't stop your cat peeing in the house? Then worry no more...

Is he neutered? And if so it could be a number of things... bladder infection (which cats get alot!) litter box not clean enough, change in schedule and doesn't get enough attention. I would first take him to the vet, if he's not neutered then get that done and if he is then have them do a urine test to see if he has an infection. I hope this was helpful!!!! But please find another option than putting him down since he's still so young.

By all means don't put him down yet. Change in litter box habits is usually a sign something in his life has changed. First have him checked for a bladder or Urinary Infection. Does he have a constant source of water ? Better pet stores have "HIGH Ash" pet food. Male cats need this as they get older. If he has had painful voiding while in the litter box, he is now associating it with that. For now put paper on his favorite spot on your bed. Good Luck

He probably has a urinary tract infection ask your vet, otherwise if he wasn't a he it could be that she was pregnant. Pregnant cats often start peeing in bad areas for no reason then stop after the kittens are born. Another reason could be because he feels ignored, Have you been spending as much time with him as usual or does he have a reason to feel jealous of someone or thing? Animals are smart either its a medical condition that he cant help or he's upset for some reason.

Besides a possible medical issue, some cats will act out like this if their status quo is somehow altered. For example if he is not getting the attention that he used to because of a new pet, a new girl friend, a different job schedule, etc. I would suggest taking him to the vet to see if it is indeed medical, and if not, try resuming his normal activities if they have changed.

Don't put him down - take him to the vet and see if he has a medical condition. If not you must have offended him in some way. I'm sure you know by now how moody they can be. Try closing your door and isolating him to another room. But please try different things before putting him down. Did you move his litter box, they don't like that. He's probably just trying to make a statement.

.Could very well be you did something different in the bedroom, for instance change the blanket's or quilt's. You may have also changed the laundry detergent you always used. If it keeps going on I would suggest you call the vet. I don't know if you can really remove the odor to my recollection, it's almost impossible. Good luck
