Check the newspapers for upcoming burials, then go and find a freshly dug grave, jump in and bury the weapon inside the grave, flatten down the soil and then go home.
Return when the funeral is on and watch as the coffin gets lowered onto your murder weapon...(pretend to be visiting a nearby grave).
Then rejoice in the knowledge that no-one is going to dig up the grave.
PS. This also works for hiding murder victims, just takes a bit more effort with the digging.
PPS I'm NOT talking from experience.

If the murder was pre-meditated (i.e. I intended to do it) then I'd plan in advance and use a murder weapon that didn't exist to begin with.

For example, carve a block of ice so that it has a very sharp and lethal edge, very much like a knife. Use that to do the job and then simply either; i) Leave it at / near the crime scene and let it melt, or ii) take it home and put it in a pan of boiling water and make a nice cup of tea out of it!

No way of finding it then..

If it wasn't pre-meditated then I don't know. The police usually look within the proximite of the murder so I'd basically take it far away.

It depends on what kind of weapon was used. In any case, even if a murder weapon is not found, jury's are starting to listen to circumstantial evidence and considering it during a trial, and this is a good thing. Thereby more criminals are getting convicted even without the murder weapon.

I wouldn't, I would destroy the weapon, however I should point out that producing an actual weapon is not always required to convict.

If the suspect can be placed at the scene of the crime at the time of death, i.e with DNA evidence and witnesses coupled with a motive then it could be enough to secure a safe conviction.

I would get on a train, travel about 30-40 miles away and dump it in a public bin wrapped up in with some half eaten take away, So the only person who is likely to find it is a tramp eating out of the bin. And hes not likely to report it and loose his dinner to the cops is he?

Hypethetically, you are gonna get caught. They scan for fingerprints, (they have yours on file) check any body fluids, test DNA. The murder weapon is just another bit of evidence. Hide it at a friend's house, they will be sent to jail for helping you. I would just write a note saying :

"Screw lawyers. I killed them. Have a Nice Day!"

it depends on what i used. if it was a gun, first i'd wipe it down. then i'd drive a few states away and bury it out in the woods somewhere

if it were a rope, or something else i'd strangled the person with, i'd burn it in a fire pit!

if it were a knife, i'd dip it in bleach (so that it destroys and dna evidence- making sure to take apart the handle too) and then use a torch to get it really hot and mis-shape it and re-hammer it beyond recocnition.

If possible, I would do the deed in the cold of winter, and I would use an icycle for a weapon so it would melt to a puddle. Any other time of the year I would have O.J. Simpson get rid of it for me.

If it were a gun, I would grind the entire weapon to dust, then sprinkle it whereever I please. If it were anyhthing steel I would just grind it to dust with my grinder. I've got a big grinder. If there is no weapon, there is no charge. Unless you're stashing the bodies in your bedroom.

I'd dismantle it screw by screw and get rid of each tiny minuscule piece in very obscure locations as far away from each other as possible. Or melt it all down and mold it into something else, like an ash tray.
