Go and sin no more!

No that is not what lent is for. And for all of the fundamentalists claiming Lent has no biblical foundation, we are marking the 40 days in which Jesus was in the wilderness. You guys read about that in the Bible right? Or is that another thing you removed during the Reformation? Why are you guys always answering questions that are obviously directed at those of us in the Catholic Church? Do you just like to talk about everything, even things you were never taught about? Would it be better if you tried to learn about us instead of bash us? Can you see why the atheists think you are foolish and intolerant?

That has got to be the stupidist question I have ever read!

To give up something for lent is to sacrifice. If you observe lent, you are a Christian and are striving to not sin period!

If you commit sins on purpose, knowing you are sinning you obviously know nothing about Christianity. I suggest you go to church and talk with a pastor or priest and learn something!

God help you.

Lent is not taught in the Bible. It has NO saving power. Only Jesus saves.

***David M--for us to make such a small sacrifice and try to compare it with what Jesus did for those dreadful 40 days, is to make a mockery of what He did. It is saying that we can do as Jesus did, and it is not possible. When Jesus went into the wilderness, He overcame temptations that were greater than some of those we have. To give up chocolate, meat, rock music or whatever is to take the GREAT thing that Jesus did and make it seem small. It takes away from what Jesus did.

Jesus also died on the cross. Are we to strap ourselves to a cross to try to compare? No! That would be a slap in the face to Jesus. Jesus suffered greatly for us. We CANNOT compare our sufferings to His sufferings.

Lent is for giving up something you love. No I do not think steeling is something you can go back do.

Actually the vows that some make for lent are vows they are supposed to keep for the rest of their lives. I don't give up things for lint, I just live to be the best Christian I can be everyday.

"Giving up something" for Lent is not Biblical. It's just another gimmick put on by some churches.

i dont have to be catholic (i most certainly am not) to answer this one...why do you bother to give up the sin in the first place if you plan on going back to it. it obviously isnt in your heart to give it up. like an earlier poster said...you have no idea what following Christ means. God said if you love Me, keep My commandments. no it doesnt mean we r perfect...it means we are to hate sin and strive to live as sinless as we can, not willingly and knowingly sin. what difference is there in the life you live and a non believers life.

If you can give it up for Lent, you can give it up for good.
