Can drug dogs in the airport tell the difference between an aspirin and a Xanax? I'll be traveling by airplane soon and Im a very nervous flyer and would like to be able to relax. A friend has offered me some pills, but I dont want to get thrown in jail. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, I know its illegal to take someone elses prescription. I just want to know if the dogs can tell the difference, enough with the moral stuff, sometimes you just like to get high.

Not sure drug dogs are trained to detect prescription drugs such as Xanax.
I took some with me when I flew to Europe last summer so that I'd sleep. No issues at the airport. Get a little plastic pill box for them to put in your carry on -- doubt you'll have a problem if they aren't in a labeled container.

Whether it be to get high or the fact that you actually 'need' the scripts, I would definitely take precaution in boarding with any type of medications, unless prescribed to you, to the airport. As you must know, Airports across the country are being very strict in what you aboard with. Dogs are basically trained for any type of drug, mainly pot and actual "drugs' not so much medications. But still, be wise and use precaution in what you bring to the airport. IF it would help, just call the airport and/or notify someone at the desk when you check your luggage in that you have medication that you have to have, I am sure they will be willing to work something out with you, AS LONG as it's prescribed to you and no one else. AND if you really need to 'relax' I would take it before you check your luggage in at the airport. I am sure that by the time you aboard, your Xanax will be in effect. Good Luck flying! :)

All drugs should be kept in the original package they were sold in - that's required. If the medicine is over the counter, that's not a problem. If you're friends drugs are a prescription, it's illegal for you to have them. I don't know specifically about these drugs and i don't think they train dogs for these drugs but dogs trained to track people can tell the difference between identical twins which indicates their noses are incredibly sensitive.

It is illegal to take someone elses prescription drugs. If you carry Xanax onto the plane, and you are searched or your luggage is searched, and they find Xanax in a bottle other than a prescription bottle with your name on it, you will be arrested for trafficing. Besides, Xanax doesnt work overnight, you have to build it up.
Just go to the drug store and get some Dramamine. It will help you out.

I doubt drug dogs are there to stiff out everyone prescription drugs. Think of all the people on prescriptions they would be digging through bags all day no one would get on their plane in time. I flew to Seattle and didn't see a single dog anywhere. I think those dogs are there to find meth, cocaine, marijuana. Things that are imported and exported not someones stupid pills.

They aren't trained to smell things like that, or they'd be alerting on every other bag at the airport. Unless you're carrying marijuana or cocaine, I wouldn't worry about a couple Xanax. If you're really paranoid, wrap the pills in a couple of plastic bags and then wrap those inside of dirty socks inside your dirty laundry bag.

Yes they can. But the Xanax is someone's prescription- which means it's not good for you.

Don't risk it trust me take them before you get to the airport you might not get arrested but with all of the security cautions now you definetly wont get on the plane with them. they even take makeup now of course they would take your pills, dogs or no dogs.

If it is a prescription drug that you don't have a prescrition for, then I wouldn't chance it because that IS against the law. Try to do some meditation and listen to relaxing audio tapes, (rainforest, etc.) instead.

Both aspirin and Xanax are legal and/or prescription drugs. Drug detection dogs are trained to detect ILLEGAL drugs. (Marijuana, cocaine, heroin, etc.)
