I have a 21 month old boy and a 9 month old boy. My 21 month boy is still on the bottle. I never got him off of the bottle before his brother was born. I know that I should have so I guess all I can do is make excuses for my self on why I didnt. But the point is he is still on the bottle. I need to know how I can get him off of the bottle I have tried just taking it from him and that doesnt work because he just takes his brothers bottle so does any one out there have any ideas I am up to anything right now. The other question that I have is should I wait to take him off of the bottle when I take his brother off the bottle please help I am desperate at this point any ideas would be great thanks in advance.

Would it be wrong if I started to wing my baby off the bottle as well. Since my 21 month old still wants to be the baby that way he is doing what his brother is doing as well.

If you can afford it (and I know there are inexpensive cups out there) go out with your 21 month old and let him pick out some big-boy cups, that are just his. Make a big deal out of this. Tell him that he is a big boy and gets to use big boy cups, while his brother is a baby and uses a bottle.
If he has something that is JUST his and that HE picked out, he will (hopefully) be more into using the cups than the bottles.
Since you can not eliminate the bottles entirely due to the little one, this is the best I can offer. You may have to be vigilant with the older one since he likes to take the bottle from the little one....hopefully the cups do the trick and he will forget about the bottle.
Good Luck.

According to Baby Center you can begin a baby @ 7 months with a sippy. I am on my second child and he just turned 7 months. He only takes a bottle in the morning and last thing before bed. TAKE ALL the bottles out of the house (except for the baby), make a big deal out of the new cup for the 21 month old and then just continue to follow through. DO NOT let him have a bottle. DO NOT let him take the babies bottle. It is not his and he should not be taking it. Or start the baby on a sippy also only use the bottle for early morning and late night feedings. That way you are killing two birds with one stone. Both kids will not be attached at that point. YOU must not give in because it will make the 21 month old stop crying or whining. He will get it. It might be a rough week or couple of days but you will make it and it will be behind you!! STAY FIRM!

When I weaned my daughter off the bottle I used the brand Nuby sippy cups, which you can buy at Walmart for about $1. The spout is soft like a bottle. See if that might work. You could also try weaning your youngest off the bottle soon, using the Nuby, wean them together and save yourself some grief. Cut one bottle back per week. Another idea is to take your oldest to the store and have him pick out a sippy cup and tell him that's what big boys use and that he's a big boy now. Make a big deal about how "cool" the new sippy cup is, etc.

Hope those suggestions help!

Let your child eat regular foods through the day along with drinking out of a sippy cup...The more you do it the more he will want to. If it is a problem reward him with a sticker or a book and tell him you are a big boy now..You don't need the bottle anymore. And if the other one is 9 months start xfering him too.

in a few months the 9 month old should be able to drink from a sippy cup. i would wait until then and get rid of all the bottles. Stick to your guns and don't give in. If a baby is thirsty enough they will drink from anything and they won't go thirsty. if they are using it to go to sleep at night after a few nights of crying for it and not getting it they will get the picture. babies are very smart.

try weening him to a sippy cup.

All it really took for me to ween my oldest off the bottle was to do 1/2 milk and 1/2 formula and she didnt like it..so she threw the bottle away herself.

The longer he is on it the harder to get off.You just have to take it away all at once and dont give in,in a couple of days he will be fine.My daughter was hooked on the pacifier,so one day I asked if she wanted to blow it up,of course she said yes so we tied it to a firecracker and I hid what was left of it and threw it away. Then when she asked me for it I told her we blew it up,and that was the end of it
