First of all, I would highly recommend taking your pet to the vet for proper diagnosis and treatment.
Fortunately, ear mites are not considered a Zoonotic disease(transmitted from animal to human) On a more serious note, if your pet continues to itch and scratch his ear, the more likely the infestation will get worse as well as resulting in long term effects, such as hearing loss and/or severe damage to the ear drum/canal(s). However, ear mites are extremely contageous and can be passed to other household pets. Most people think that ear mites just effect the ears, which isn't true, as they can appear anywhere on the animals' body. I would definitely take your pet to the vet to get antibiotics and take the precautions on getting this problem taken care of so that it doesn't have any long term effects on the dog. The sooner you take care of it, the better chance you have of getting rid of the problem so that your Dog can be healthy and comfortable again. You can usually tell how advanced the infestation is because the canal will bleed, which will look like ground coffee, and will appear in the ear canal. Also keep in mind that not always is it ear mites, it could also be a bacterial and/or yeast infection. That is why it is very important to get the actual diagnosis from a vet so that it will be properly diagnosed and treated. Good Luck :)

Unless your vet has made a diagnosis of ear mites, don't assume that is your dog's problem. Ear mites in dogs are less common than either bacterial or fungal infections, and the medications are different for each. Your vet will microscopically examine the discharge from the ear to make a correct diagnosis and then will medicate accordingly. Ear mites are not transmissible to humans, but are quite contagious between dogs and cats.

How do you know your dog has ear mites? Was it diagnosed by a vet? Ear mites are NOT common in dogs...I recommend that you take your dog to a vet to get a proper diagnosis and treatment. Do NOT self medicate!!! Doing so can cause serious harm even permanent deafness.
And No humans can't get ear mites from pets.

How do you know your dog has ear mites? Ear mites can only be seen microscopically, so if your vet has not diagnosed this condition I would strongly recommend a vet visit. No people do not get ear mites.

Humans cannot get earmites. Who diagnosed your dog with ear mites. Dogs usually do not get ear mites. If your dog was diagnosed then your vet should have given you some medication for them.

humans dont usually get earmites. its a microscopic parasite and should be treated with an ear-mit-icide. u can usually get it at any pet store or from th evet for the professional stuff. they have changed over the years but usually the best way is to soak several q-tips and roll it around in the ear including all the crevaces and all around as far as u can see and comfortable for the dog. Be thorough or they will be back with a vengence.

All it takes is a few drops of Wesson corn oil in your dog's ear...Massage it in, then clean with a cotton ball. Repeat daily for 3 days. The oil soothes the dog's skin, smothers the mites, and accelerates healing...atleast thats what someone told me hope it helps
