B/f John has scraped off the old paper, sized the walls and re-papered our living room BUT the paper won't stay stuck. He's using that paste that sticks a guy to a board carried by a helicopter so we know it should stick. So- It must be the wallpaper. But why would they sell a wallpaper that won't stick for more than a couple of hours? But most importantly- Help.

Is it coming off the wall or just at the seams? If it is at the seams it means that he didn't coat the paper thoroughly enough at the edges. If you don't want him to know that you have made queries, make up another, small, batch of paste and get a small brush that will go under the seam of the paper and paste liberally. Use a small roller to get the seams to go flat and wipe off the excess paste. Failing that I have used white sealer, that you squeeze from a tube for the really stubborn bits that won't lie down. Again roll with the roller, and wipe off excess. If it won't stay lying down stick some drawing pins into it and wait until it is dry and remove pins. The things we do to keep our guys happy.

Shouldn't have sized the wall - it's already on there from the previous paper being hung!

Has he mixed paste properly - and allowed the paper to soak for the correct amount of time - most papers have a soak time - from 1 min up to 6 mins - if you don't allow it to soak properly the paste won't absorb into it and it will dry out to quickly and the paper falls off!

If the room is too warm the paste may be drying out before the paper has a chance to stick properly.
Or he may be using too little paste for it to bond with the wall.
After sizing the walls you may need to leave them a few days to dry out otherwise the plaster may still be too absorbent and be absorbing all the paste so the paper falls off.

usually this happens because either the paper or the walls have taken all the moisture out of the paste too quickly. If he sized the walls they should be ok, so maybe you needed to leave the paper to soak for 5 mins or so after pasting before you stuck it up

He is most probably hanging the wallpaper without leaving it to soak and the paper is being hung "too dry".

could be a reaction between the size and the paste. was the paper ready pasted? that can somtimes cause problems. have you used the right mixture of paste? maybe it was to thin .hope this helps.

the only thing that springs to mind is that the paste is to watered down or the paper is pre-pasted so by putting paste on it make it dry out and not stick????????????????
