This dog is ignored has an instant feeder and no one ever talks to him. He loves attention. He is on logging chain behind chain link fence. If I sneek into the house he barks until I come back out to visit with him. He copies my voice either low barking or high. He sees me and starts hopping and bouncing on all four legs. He looks comical. What else can I do to make his life happy because his owners are only impressed with the fact that he is a white pit bull. I asked if it was okay to visit with him with a dog biscuit and they didn't have a problem with it. I just want to do so much for this obviously magnificent animal

Bless you for giving this poor guy some attention! The situation sounds heartbreaking.

Would you be able to take him if you could convince them to give him up? If they don't mind you visiting him, perhaps ask if he could come visit in your yard sometimes...gradually increase the time he spends with you. Maybe after awhile they will realize that it's easier not to have him around, or perhaps they'll grow a heart and see how much happier he is with you.

That actually worked for me once with a cat...maybe it will work for you?

Thank you again, and good luck!

You are such a wonderful person for caring for this dog.Unfortunately too many people get pits for the "look" or "prestige" of it and leave the animal to rott in the yard. Pit are extemely social dogs and need human interaction all of the time. I agree, you should ask the neighbors if you can buy the dog. If that is not an option, call animal control or the humane society and alert them to the situation. Call often. If barking is ever a problem, call the police.
You are great for socializing and caring about this dog. If you have some old tennis balls, toss them in the yard for him to play with until animal control finds him a good home.

Very nice of you!! BUT this is no life for a dog. I'm sure you feel the same way since you are trying to give him a better quality of life. These owners need to be educated, why is he chained? There are now laws against chaining dogs. At the very least I hope he's neutered. Unneutered dogs are more likely to bite than neutered dogs. (Pit Bulls already have a bad rep as it is, the owners are just contributing to this by him being unsocialized, chained etc..Also what would happen if you moved or they moved the dog would be back in the same situation. I would call animal control & remain anonymous. Im sure they could do something about this. GOOD LUCK :)

Be very careful of this dog.

The BBC news item below (Jan 2007) tells how a Pit Bull terrier savagely killed a 5 year old girl and almost killed her grandmother. The dog was owned by the little girl's uncle.

These dogs are banned in the UK under the Dangerous Dogs act of 1991. The Pit Bull is the FIRST dog to be specifically identified under this law and it is an offence to breed them or to sell them. The clear intention of the law is to rid the UK of all Pit Bull Terriers.

However you try, you cannot justify the risk to children. It would be better to rid the world of these dogs than to have one more little girl die in this horrific way. Enough said....I hope. .

I had the same thing happen with a lovely little cocker spaniel that the idiots next door left chained outside all winter. In the spring, he got loose and came over to visit. And the visit kept lasting longer and longer, until he just moved in with us. The owners decided to move, and left him with us.

This might work for you too. Take the poor guy for a walk, and bring him back to your house for a bit, before returning him. You can gradually extend the "walks".

Bless you for taking an interest in this neglected fellow, he must think you are his guardian angel.

If the owners won't relinquish the dog and insist on keeping it (and there is no basis for filing a "neglect" complaint with your local Aniaml Control office), you may want to help this dog become more socialized by taking it on walks, or offering to take it to socialization and training classes at your local shelter.

Do NOT trespass on their property or steal their property (the dog); that will get you arrested and possibly get the dog dumped in the pound.

I would ask to adopt or buy the dog. If that would not work, maybe you could offer to dog sit or walk the dog.
Good luck, we need more animal lovers like you.

That poor dog! Thank goodness he has you! He certainly can't live the way he is now. You've got 2 options. Try to buy him from the owners, or call the police. Neglect is abuse.

call your local animal shelter or animal control and have them removed from the home. if the dog is continueally ignored it can become viscious. tell them that you will adopt him if you can since it seems that you love him more than his owners do.

buy it off of them, or go to the animal police. it sound like you too need each other. if they say no raise your price and ask everyday, they will give in. the next thing steal the dog and never come around again, or come around without the dog.
