It varies greatly. My husband is getting out of the army soon (w/ no college) and is eligible at our local police station.

You would need to check the requirements at the location where you wish to apply. Most police departments have websites outlining the educational and other requirements. It has been my experience that an individual needs an associates degree at the very least, with most departments preferring a bachelors degree.

What police departments prefer, and what they will accept are two very different things. Although police departments would very much like to hire people with college degrees, the reality is, they will accept high school graduates and people discharged from the military, especially if they were in the military police.

Most police departments would prefer 4 years, a bachelors degree.
I would also prefer that police officers have as much education as they can. Working from a base of knowledge is always better.

It depends on where you are looking to work.
My husband is a cop and never finished college, but he spent 10 years as a corrections officer 1st.
Some departments want a 4 yr, others a 2yr and still others will accept life and work experience.
Good luck on your quest...
