Birds do not copulate in the same manner as other animals or even humans. It cetainly appears to follow the same mounting ritual but no penetration takes place.
Both birds ( even chickens) have cloaca's a pouch where both the genitals and the anus are located( hence crap on eggs sometimes)
The male bird mounts the females back and places the cloaca againt that of the female , makes a few thrusts which deposits a foamy sperm onto the outside of female cloaca.

The sperm motiles itself into the cloaca and up into the uterus of the female and fertilizes the eggs. One mating can fertilize the eggs for a whole season.

They copulate like people. It is done when the male mounts the female from behind. The act lasts about 1-3 seconds. You may have already witnessed this before. Have a nice day.

The male mounts the female from the back and it is really quick. Maybe a second or 2.
