Your mum's opinion obviously means something to you or you wouldn't ask. Think long and hard about this decision. Tastes change as you mature. What seems like a good idea today, might seem terrible in a few years. If you do choose to get a tatoo (which is your right), make sure it's timeless. I would never consider a tatoo of a love interest (boyfriend, girlfriend) or anything that could change...even if don't think it ever will. Putting the names or reminders of your children is a good bet because no matter what, they will always be yours.
My kids thought Pokemon was totally cool once, but now they think it's stupid.

You're certainly old enough to make up your own mind. On the other hand, you obviously have a great deal of respect for your mum. It's a tough desicion; and one you will ultimately have to make up your own mind about.

There are three ways I can think to deal with this. One, you can do as you will, get a tattoo, and out of respect for mum, don't tell her or show it to her. The other way is to not get a tattoo so long as she's still alive. The third and final way is to get the tattoo and tell her to bugger off; it's your body and your life to do with as you please.

Your final decision should be a solution that you can live with and still stay friends with mum.

Do what I did. Choose what you want, and where you want it. Then wait 6-9 months. Are you still as excited about getting that? Do that over and over again till you are just as excited with what you've decided on 6-9 months later, that way you won't wake up one morning and want to rip your arm off cause of that stupid looking ink blot on it :)

FYI, i am a VERY impatient person, so it was tough for me to wait. Also, my inlaws are tattoo artists who own a shop and would give me whatever I want for free, no matter the size. Just telling you this so you can see that I really WAS patient about it!!!

Ahhh, this is hard. I'm sixteen and I really wanted a lip piercing so I went and asked my mom and she said no. It's been about 3 months since I've asked and I think she's kind of right. I mean, first off, it labels me and secondly, there's just no point in it when you take time to reflect about it. Plus, a tattoo IS expensive. Maybe you should wait and ask a bit later, and even though you're a grown up person, you should still listen to your mom, even though it sucks at the time, it'll benefit you in the future. I hope I helped.

You are an adult. I suggest you get one in a place that you can cover up around her so that she either doesn't have to know or atleast doesn't have to look at it. That also hinders size but it comes down to what you want to do. Both of my brothers have them and I'm getting one, my mom doesn't really like them but we are grown up and legal under the law. Put some more thought into it first. Good luck!

You could give yourself a sharpie tattoo that says "mom" and see what her reaction is when you show it to her. If she likes it than you'll know its not the idea of a tattoo that bothers her, she's just worried about what you would get done.

If you really want a tattoo you should get a tattoo. You are grown up and you can make a choice to do something if you want to. Just remember once you get one it is never coming off!

You are an adult so it should be your decision. However if you are living at home still without paying any room and board you should really listen to what your Mum says. I think you should have a discussion about it with her as to why she doesn't want you to have one, and why you want one. a compromise would be a small inconspicuous one.

get one. unless you depend on your parents and they'll disown you if you get a tatoo. a tattoo is a wonderful feeling, it's awesome, but if you're mom is going to kick you out then don't do it yet, wait...you have your whole life to get tattooed, don't risk it for the moment if you can't do it right this second, trust me...

my mum was the same, she told me I couldn't get one while I was living under her roof, so when I left home I got one done. When she saw it she wasn't impressed, she finally got used to it.
I have had 4 more since but she accepts me for who I am.
