1- People ask questions that there isn't a short answer to. Like what evidence is there for evolution. There is a lot and even a short list in a little white box gets pretty long.
2- People like to think that quoting a ton of scripture is an answer rather than just speaking from their gut when you could get it done in a line or two.

2 reasons:
1) Because a lot of thinkers in this section, that like to reason out their answers. Questions are generally not just seeking information but opinions.
2) Because a few people are so obsessed with making their point that they copy-paste stuff from the internet, as a previous answerer has said. Those are exceptional though.

Mostly for two reasons.
#1 It's a very personal subject, that can really get people going.
#2 People often cut & paste long strings of Bible verse.

I think because it is easier to go on and on about complete bollo*ks.

Because the more they feel the need to prove the existence of god, the more they'll quote claptrap from the bible to try and back themselves up. It's quite simple for me though - he doesn't exist: fact.

Because FACT, is self evident. Fiction takes an impossible amount of explanation.

I would guess cause christians wan't to 'back up ' their answers with scriptures, so people know it's not made up or their own opinion.
