what you have to do is give your dog a nasty experience. find something that your dog hates eg, Brussels sprouts, and then cover them in chocolate and place inside a fancy box ,place on the floor and wait.if your dog is a greedy gulper this method will work for sure but if you find your dog is crafty and licks the chocolate of the sprouts then a bang on the nose with a rolled up newspaper works just as well.

Interesting - you ask a question then you adopt a strangely hostile attitude to the answerers! Well, here is my advice, should you wish to accept it:

Dogs are natural thieves, and have to be trained not to touch anything that belongs to you. I have a sweet little mutt but she will wait till I am out of the room then she will climb any amount of furniture and wrestle with cupboards doors to get to where she knows there is chocolate (like most dogs, she loves chocolate - she doesn't understand that it is very, very bad for her.) However, she has the grace to look guilty if she is caught.

If you catch your dog in the act, reprimand him with a loud and very stern, 'NO!' Most dogs will back off and skulk under the table as they are NOT stupid - they know when you are displeased with them. If the dog does not show signs of submitting to your command, then he is not aware that you are the pack leader and he must be taken to dog training classes as this is not a good character trait. Do not chastise the dog after the event as he will have no memory or understanding of what he did that was so wrong. You need to be more vigilant - you really cannot leave any food within the dog's reach - please just try to incorporate this good practice into your day.

First of all the dog isn't stupid! When you see the dog getting into the chocolates you need to take the box away and show him or her the box and say NO! in a very stern voice so the dog will get an idea of not to eat your chocolates. Take the box and put up so he or she can't reach it! Dogs are nosey they like to sniff and get into things... thats like saying I left antifreeze out and my idiot dog ate it... just keep things up in a higher place

Ok I wont say "dont put it on the floor" but I will say it isnt the dog that is stupid I am sure he can learn just fine.. it is you who have no taught him properly and while I wont say you are stupid, I will say you are ignorant if you think your dog eating the food you leave laying around is stupid.

It is up to you as an owner to train your dog AND protect the dog from harm, chocolate contains theobromine which in sufficient quantities can KILL you dog without immediate medical attention.

I will tell you how to stop you dog from eating your food... stop leaving it laying around where he can get to it!!

Yeah, you answered your own question, and I hate to say this, but if you are referring to your dog as stupid and an idiot for doing stuff like that(stuff most dogs do) , maybe you have no business having one then. Also, chocolate , consumed in larger amounts, can poison and possibly kill a dog. So either try your absolute best not leave stuff laying around, or give your dog to someone who can care for it better.

look in the mirror luv then you'll see who the stupid dog is. why are you eating your food off the floor? leave it out of the reach of your dog and don't blame him - you're the idiot for leaving it on the floor. start living hygienically and remember who's to blame if something happens to your dog - chocolate is extremely dangerous to dogs. better still, give your dog to a home that doesnt think its stupid and doesn't live in a pig sty with food all over the floor

I really think this is a fake and stupid question. Everyone knows U should never let a dog eat chocolates. C'mon people I've seen questions like this b4 on here. Someone asks a question like this and then people answer cursing her out telling her why would she leave chocolates on the floor? If she knows her dog is gonna eat it. Save your energy and time and don't even bother to answer this one:)

If you leave things out that will tempt a dog...and if its anything like my greedy hound, then this applies to EVERYTHING...then sorry, the dog is going to eat it...my dog is brilliant at the 'leave' command but if he is unattended and the food is there...then he will eat it...so sorry common sense, you really need to not leave it lying around which kinda answers your own question really...and chocolate, unless the doggy kind is TOXIC to dogs...your dog may not have keeled over but it is no good for him.

Like everyone else said, you answered your own question. And I don't think you should punish him for eating it even if you catch him in the act. You put his food on the floor (in a bowl) so they learn that any food on the floor belongs to them. In my opinion you're telling your dog that you don't want it anymore and he can have it.

And YES, Chocolate is POISION to dogs!!!!!

First off, dogs aren't supposed to eat candy... like chocolate! Second, decrease the amout of dog food you are feeding it. You might be givig your dog to much food, so everytime you feed it, he expects more. If you drop food on the floor, pick it up!
