The risk is extremely high. My dad was a sergeant on the California Highway Patrol and had SO MANY things happen to him: A helicopter blew up and landed on the top of his patrol car, breaking his neck...He inhaled hazardous materials and damaged his respiratory tract...He was shot in the face with a sawed-off shotgun while pulling someone over. He was clinically dead before they brought his back at the hospital. That one was on Real Stories of the Highway Patrol...He has had surgery on both shoulders, collapsed his lung, broken his wrist...etc...VERY HIGH RISK.

There is always the risk of getting injured or killed, they go to work everyday not knowing if the next person they meet is going to be the one to take there life. Domestics are the worst, when feelings and emotions are involved and things can go south very quickly. The risk is very high, there is no doubt in that.

depends in the state and city your in. Im trying to become a cop myself in New York City. Depends on which area your in, a high drug dealing and gang related area, your a target, but then again, if your in an affluent community and got outsiders coming into your town to start problems, then you got to make sure you wear your bulletproof vest is on, you got your magazines filled and you are well tuned to your areas or they will be playing amazing grace on bagpipes. be safe man

There is a huge risk. Of course it greatly depends on the violent crime of your jurisdiction. Law enforcement encounter dangerous people on a daily basis so of course there is a risk.

Would vary tremendously- Little Town, North Dakota, or Detroit, or LA or Philly? The first one- less action, the others, watch out!

its greater than that of the average citizen considering you are never involved in high speed chases, are running into a house with criminals with guns, drug addicts with hypodermic needles who have to be wrestled in order to have handcuffs placed on them. I think you know the answer to your own question. The majority of time is down time, but the adreneline gets pumped from time to time to protect you and yours. youre welcome.
just for instance, i once was on a call that was in an apartment, i was a rookie, when we got into the apartment there were two young females in the living room, it all looked calm until one of the sisters saw us, she then pulled out the biggest knife i had ever laid eyes on, she was higher than a kite and wanted to kill here younger sister, i immediatedly wanted to use force to get it away from her but my partner talked her into handing it over withoug incident, her younger sister was terrified, her mother hysterical, no much but boy you live and you learn.

Depends on where you live and what area you patrol. Also your level of training.
