IKEA has some very interesting ideas for basic kitchens.
Their site has a free kitchen planner software that I downloaded to plan ours. When we were satisfied with it, we printed it off and took it to the store where they checked that it would work.
When it was delivered (in 76 boxes!) there were terrific instructions with photos for the complete idiot. We taped them to the wall and referred to them constantly.
Preparation took longer than the actually building, but we are very pleased with the result. It really adds a lot of value to the house, too.

Stove, fridge, sink, microwave and coffemaker are standards. You need counterspace or workspace. Table to eat on, chairs. Cabinets to store things.
For functional use: kettle, pots, pans, knives, cutting board, dishes, eating and serving utensils, a few pieces of plastic storage, a mug or two and a clock. And a calendar.:)
A geranium would be nice.

Since you say your poor then go for the cheaper brand appliances such as:
the mini refrigerators (like for dorm rooms)
a microwave
a sink
silverware
plates, cups and bowls
and the food of course
