1- Muhammad Ali of course. Cleaned out the heavyweight division three times winning the title each time.
2 - Rocky Marciano - Undefeated. A monster puncher.
3 - Joe Louis - Held the title for 11 years. Enough said.
Runner Ups - Lewis, Johnson, Foreman, Holyfield
Tyson is not in my top 10. His reign was not long enough and he was very weak mentally

1. Muhammad Ali - No one could match his speed and grace in the heavyweight division, yet he had tremendous power as well. Don't forget we never got to see him in his prime because he spent those years expelled from boxing.
2. Joe Frazier - It is my opinion that, had Ali not been around, Joe Frazier would be the one we'd be talking about as the greatest. Ali was so good, Frazier often doesn't make the list.
3. Rocky Marciano - I want to give this to Joe Louis, but Marciano found a way to win every time he stepped into the ring. Heart and strength made him a great boxer.

1. Marciano
2. Louis
3. Ali
Marciano just refused to lose and had more power and determination than any fighter. A lot of boxing fans do not realize that Rocky chose and trained to fight at 188 lbs. He easily could have came in to fights at 205-207 lbs much like Frazier and he was a lot harder to hit with clean shots than is believed.
Louis was champion for almost 12 years and holds the record for most title defenses in his career. The Brown Bomber had dynamite in his fists and quick hands too. It's hard to argue that he wasn't the most complete heavyweight in history.
Ali was the most charismatic heavyweight of them all and had dazzling speed and amazing footwork in the ring. He was a multi champion and beat a lot of great fighters during his career. He very well may have been undefeated in another era.

Joe Louis and Ali have to be 1-2 in either order you want them;
Rocky Marciano would have to be considered because of his longevity and toughness...not a great boxer but a great puncher and tough as nails. Joe Louis fought all comers and although impossible to do..the greatest fight in history would be between Ali and Louis; both could box, both could punch, both missed some prime years yet still came back and won championships.
The number three spot could be argued for a long time; however 1 and 2 have to be those two guys. You can then go for Foreman, Floyd Patterson (who beat Marciano), Jack Dempsey,
Evander Holyfield held his own. You have to look at longevity as a champion as well as just a couple of great fights. I don't ever consider Tyson among the greats...he could hit, but he fought a lot of guys who weren't in the class of the greats.

1. Mike Tyson- Why you ask? If you go back and watch Mike Tyson before his original trainer died (I don't know his name). He was unstoppable. I mean his punchers were quick and strong as heck. I don't know if anyone can even match his speed, power combo. If Mike Tyson wouldn't of got messed up with Don King and other bad names, his career wouldn't of been the way it was. He wouldn't of probly ever lost. He lost sight of his jab and became a slugger rather than a fundamentally sound boxer. His life and career is a sad story because if he had mad the right choices who knows where he'd be now. I bet it wouldn't be locked up on drug charges.
2. Muhammad Ali. He could go number 1 but i put him here because Mike deserves some credit. Ali had mouth that could overload most peoples asses but he always backed it up. He had unbelievable speed with a good power punch to go along. If he wasn't exiled from boxing for awhile he might have had an even longer greater career than he had which is unridiculous. He was 6x-5 i believe in his career. I may be wrong don't quote me on that just trying to remember. He will probly go down as having the greatest overall career.
3. Joe Frazier. Joe's left hook was not something to mess with. He loses alot of his credibility as a great fighter because of Muhammad was in his era of boxing. Heavyweight boxing use to be a powerhouse class. These three guys prove that. Joe's career doesnt need much mentioning if you know boxing you know Joe.
Those are my top 3. My opinion and probly are wrong by most people standards. The heavyweight class is terrible now days and makes you think of what it use to be like with these 3 people. Rocky could even be in the top 3 and even George Forman (sp? kinda late).

I'm old enough to have seen them all.
Until Ali, the first true good punching larger heavweight, the best had all been true light-heavyweights--Marciano, Joe Luis and Billy Conn, who should have beaten louis.
The best I've ever seen in no order are Larry Holmes, Muhammad Ali and Ken Norton.
