What tricks would, or could you teach a cat and how would you teach it?

My female cat loves to play fetch with cable ties. Like another poster said, sometimes once they start that game they don't want to stop playing. Cats are intelligent and can be trained but it takes a lot of patience and consistency. They don't tend to be as food driven as dogs, so they cannot always be bribed with treats. It's usually better to watch how they play and what type of games they enjoy. They're much more likely to want to interact if you're doing something they find fun.
For me, the ultimate cat trainer is a Russian clown called Yuri Kuklachov. The Moscow CatsTheatre is a collection of around fifty cats he has trained for a circus show and it's truly amazing to watch some tricks the cats perform. See the link below

You can teach cats just like you can teach dogs; with treats.
As far as I know you can teach a cat any trick that is physically possible, all you have to do is be patient.
People think it's harder to teach a cat a trick, honestly it isn't. Like I said, do the same with them as you would with a dog.

Yes, I'm sure you can just as easily as people teach dogs tricks. I don't have any cats, but I have seen cats do tricks before.

Cats are a lot harder than dogs because they are very moody and they think that everything is all about them and on their timing. But xocaobse said it best in her advise. Repeating whatever you want to teach is the way to do it and use a treat that they won't frown at. Good Luck!

If I could teach my cat a trick, it would be to be more social... Cats can be trained, but it takes years, compaired to a couple months for training a dog.

Yes, in fact there's a book entitled "How to Teach Your Cat Tricks." I forget the author's name, but your local bookstore will have it or can order it. My two Siamese heel and fetch. One will roll over.

Yes. Using treats to reward my cat, I was able to teach my cat how to sit, lay down, and shake with her paw. It didn't take that long either, just a few weeks. It helps if your cat is not skittish. Good luck.

be warned- not all cats can be trained. they're stubborn little things, but oh so cute!

anything you want to teach him (within reason, of course) should probably be done with food. not enough to cause health problems, just a little motivation. then guide him through the motions of whatever you want him to do, while repeating the command. give him the treat when you're done. soon he'll know the command and the motion means treats!

don't make them do anything they don't want to do!

Play dead!
You could have a cat treat lol and say "Play dead" and then push the kitty over gently on his side, then say "good play dead" and give him the treat
do this over and over like 5 times in a row per day, and do it about like 4 days a week or 5.
good luck ♥

I have a cat who loves to fetch! He started when I threw a hot ball still in it's cellophane wrapper. He was interested in the sound, found it, and brought it back to me. Be careful what you wish for though. Now he wants to play at night, I wake up with odd things shoved under my pillow!
Start with something simple- like SIT. Offer a small treat when he does, and be consistent.
