Everytime I turn around I see places you can donate to help refugees, build schools in other countries for their children, etc..etc... Or American actors going to other countries to help out. Or American celebrities always adopting foreign babies. I have NOTHING against helping others out, but I just feel we need to get our own country in order first...what about children here in the USA that need homes, or the homeless in the USA, or people living in poverty in the USA, or all the people that can't afford medical insurance in the USA, I could go on and on. Just wondering if anyone else feels the same.

Amen!

This is the problem when our government takes over our charitable giving. If we were all free to choose where to donate our money, you'd see less welfare slums and more people actually living the American dream.

We Americans are very generous, but we expect people to help themselves as much as possible. I'll give you a hand up, but not a handout. I am so sick and tired of people who feel that they are owed something simply because they are still breathing.

It is good that we care about the rest of the world, but we should not just ACT like we care about the rest of the world. We should have true compassion for all living things. Moreover, we should be the most compassionate for those whom we recognize as most deserving of our charity.
It is disgusting that the United States government can't provide food, shelter, and minimal health care for every individual in the nation; no matter what citizenship, age, background, etc. We should be able to more closely meet this ideal goal, especially considering the huge amount of money that goes into international charities. Why do the rich use so many tax loopholes and manipulate our puppet government to deny us these basic necessities, then donate to charities helping "the less fortunate" across the globe for the sole purpose of making themselves look good and feel better?
Secondly, do people even realize what they're doing by contributing to all of these charities? It is an empirical fact that poor people reproduce more. If a poor family receives charity, then that family has a higher rate of survival than they otherwise would have. While this is a GOOD thing, it is also a double edged blade. Human growth has been slowly reaching finite limits to consumption; we are driving more and more species and wildlife extinct to maintain our current population. We are consuming more than the Earth can create. In this case, if you donate to a charity, make it the MOST deserving charity you can find. It is your DUTY to only try to help those whom you consider deserving of your help. If you donate to a particular charity simply to "jump on the bandwagon," then you are not acting morally.

If we don't let some people die, then soon noone will be able to live. Sorry to break it to you.

You people are out of your minds. I mean, I really hate to say so but it's pretty clear that most people who answered in support of this "question" are poorly educated, poorly traveled or both. If you systematically inflict your culture, economy and lifeways on other cultures, countries and economies it's expected that you do your part in maintaining what you've left behind. Aside from the basic humanistic belief that if we're better off we have an obligation to aid those who are not better off (and I must say statments like "some American ghettos are worse than those in Africa" don't have a leg to stand on - America is the wealthiest, most powerful nation in the world. It can't be argued.) there is also the simple fact that if we're going to perpetrate the kind of wide-scale economic crimes abroad that we are, we'd better offer something in return, and that "american dream" stuff is crap if you're poor, starving and illiterate BECAUSE of America. Wake up and get a news source besides FOX, CNN and your Whitebread Americatown churchgroup. Should we be spending money on books instead of bombs? You bet. But that doesn't necessitate cutting spending on those who need it most abroad.

The poor in our country are far better off than the middle class in many 3rd world countries.

Here, the poor receive free food, shelter, and support from the government to help them get back into society (some have problems re-entering due to drugs or other issues, but the assistance is there).

In the third world, there is no such support mechanism and many end up dead as a result.

The problem of wealth distribution is the worst in India where they have the young rich making near to US salaries, and the poorest still living in huts.

OMG...thank you..seriously!!!! same here it drives me nuts!!!!

i know this is America and yes we have our freedom, but we have our own problems right here at home that the government should be more concerned about then anywhere else. what will we change by having the troops in Iraq? it just kills innocent lives of our troops and the family's get to suffer for it..and that's just one of our problems..not to mention health care, we should all have free health care, if not and the government doesn't grant it then make it more affordable..no one can afford it..everything is so expensive we need to lower our expenses in America as well..i can go on forever but yes your totally right!!! i hope one day we have a great president that will focus on the dreams of Americans instead of trying to live the American dream.

It's not just you. This country needs to stop minding every other country's business and getting into never-ending wars.It breaks my heart every time I see a homeless family in my area (mind you it's freezing outside) or an elderly person who cannot afford their medication. We are one of the richest nations in the world and we are unable to solve these problems,I just don't understand it.People adopt foreign babies because the laws are more lenient overseas than here.I knew a lady who was a big time alcoholic and ended up adopting a boy from Guatemala because she did not qualify here.Refugees are usually victims of those sick"ethnic cleansing" campaigns,so I actually do feel bad for them.I remember my Southeast Asian friends who came from camps in Thailand. They were given only one bowl of rice a day to eat,now that is sad.

I've heard a lot of this, but I've heard more people talk about how 2pac was great because of his messages not his flow than people talk about him being super-talented. Plus, despite whether or not he was an incredibly talented rapper, he was an undeniably talented musician. When he died he left over 700 unreleased tracks, to write all that in his short career shows real musical talent. And the only reason Eminem is so overrated is cus the dumb fan girls who have only listened to recovery. His flows and rhymes are crazy.

It seems like the US is becoming less a "United States" and it seems like we are trying to unite the world with us.

But it would be hard watching the other people in countries, die and starve, etc. While we just watched. (Some of these countries are our friends)
On the other hand that is happening here also.

Hey SunBunny! Where ya been ??

Ya know I wonder the same thing, but I went to Iraq and saw how childern live over there. They beg for water. No one should have to beg for water. I couldn't help but to give them water or some food if I had any exrta. There are 3 things in the world worth caring about: Love Life and Liberty.
