Of course, Godzilla.

But then, one must be honest enough to distinguish between harmful and harmless addictions...

Most anything that gives one a sense of physical, psychological or spiritual pleasure or well being could be called an "addiction."

Doughnuts and Whoppers are an addiction as powerful as any heroin to some.

Sexual pleasure is an addiction, but basically harmless for a healthy, well-balanced mind.

Worship services are an addiction in their own way.

NASCAR qualifies, as does bass & walleye fishing, deer hunting, football, baseball, etc., etc.

To each their own.....addiction.

Doug has a great answer. I have only been addicted to cigarettes and have quit now for the eighth and final time. Because I have a serious anxiety disorder, my psychological addiction was more problematic in quitting than the addiction to the nicotine. I did most definitely feel that the smoking was a comfort to me in times of high anxiety...even though smoking actually increases anxiety.

I was addicted to nicotine for 38 years and had to really study it to beat it. There are areas of your brain that secrete compounds like dopamine to make you feel good.
When you satisfy a craving or addiction your brain produces those kind of chemicals so you "believe" everything is good and right in the world. ^_^ Thats why its so hard to beat. I've been a non-smaker for 4 years and to this day i still reach for smokes after a good meal or sex. I miss that first smoke in the morning with a cup of coffee but now I can see the differences so its easily brushed asside. Things like tasting food, smelling my wifes perfume and not being totally winded by running a block or walking up a flight of stairs. Once you beat it you find other ways to make the chemicals.....-_^ And yes your sexual performance does improve. So if you want to satisfy a lover ....give up the coffin nails!!!LOL

It isn't the actual item that your addicted to that is comforting, it is what it does for you that is comforting. It gets you out of reality. Can keep you out of living in reality. Ya just don't care much about anything but keeping that supply, of what ever it is you have become addicted to. It becomes very damaging to you and all others involved in your life.

No...because there is always the feeling of not having any control over the addiction.

It is slavery, not comfort. Addicted people want to get out of their addiction, but they can't. They are not happy with it, they grieve.

Sure, most times. Otherwise they wouldn't be addicted. Unless it was a purely physical addiction.

Temporary comfort, yes, but eventually they come to the real world and have a big let down that just makes everything worse.
