If you cover every number it would cost you $19. You would be betting 1-36, 0 and 00. 38 numbers in all. The casino pays 35-1 and you get your money back. So whichever number hits you would get 50c x 35 = $17.50 plus your stake of 50c = $18. So you would lose a dollar every spin.

If you bet all but one number you would make $18 for a bet of $18.50, so you would lose 50c every time. Unfortunately you would be risking that odd occasion when the one number you didn't cover came up, in which case you would lose every bet you had just made. Losing 50c per spin, and then occasionally losing $18.50 in a single spin, is not much of a strategy.

You also asked about not covering two numbers. Well now you are betting $18 and winning $17.50. So you are still losing 50c per spin, but now you have 2 chances in 38 or a one in 19 chance of losing your money. Still no better off.

The only semi-logical way to try to make money on roulette is called, I believe, the prisoner's strategy. You bet either black or red (or even odd), basically anything that pays 2-1, and you keep doubling your bet until you win. Example: bet $1 on red, if you lose, bet $2 on red, if you lose bet $4 on red. Once you win you will profit the original bet, in this case $1 (if you win on the $8 bet, you get paid 2-1 = $16, you bet 1+2+4+8=$15; 16-15=$1 profit) The problem w/ this strategy is you win a rather small amount, and it only works if you have an infinite bankroll, because eventually you're going to lose 20 times in a row and lose all your money.

I agree totally with Wendy...
As a long time roulette dealer, I have to tell you this game is strictly luck. nothing else.
For the best "insurance" bet....pick 5 black numbers. bet five on red. Or, pick 5 numbers below 19, and bet five on the second half. Or, 5 even numbers, and bet five on odd.....
Unless the zeroes hit, at least you'll break even.

Hope this helps.....
remember, if you can't afford to lose, don't play!

I mean no rudeness-I promise-but the way you are thinking, you should not gamble unless you can afford to lose all of your money.
