3 friends check into a motel for the night and the clerk tells them the bill was $30, payable in advance. So, they each pay the clerk $10 each and go to their room. A few minutes later, the clerk realises he has made an error and has charged the trio $5 to much. He asks the bellhop to take the $5 to them. The bellhop realises he has an oppertunity to make $2 his reason is the trio would have a hard time splitting $5 between them.So he tells them the clerk overcharged them by $3. He pockets $2 and the trio each recieve a $1 this means they only payed $9 each which is a total of $27 for the room. We know that the beelhop has $2 add this to the $27 you get $29 not $30 . Where did the other dollar go?????????????????????????????????????

The data in this riddle are sparkling: there is an initial $30 cost. it is going to were $25, so $5 must be again and accounted for. $3 is given to the three associates, $2 is saved through the bellhop - there you've the $5. The trick to this riddle is that the addition and subtraction are done on the incorrect situations to misdirect your wondering - and fairly effectively for most. each and each and every of the three associates did certainly pay $9, no longer $10, and so some distance because the associates are worried, they paid $27 for the evening. yet all of us understand that the clerk will let us know that they were charged in trouble-free terms $25 and once you upload the $3 again with the $2 saved through the bellhop, you come back up with $30

You have to remember the price of the room is now $25, forget $30, then 3 times 9 is 27, take away $2 not add on, making $25....

The answer is that there is no missing dollar. Adding $27 and $2 (to get $29) is the wrong operation. They paid $27, $2 went to the dishonest waiter, and $25 went to the restaurant. You have to subtract $27 minus $2 to get $25. There never was a $29; it has nothing to do with anything.

30-5=25 so it should have cost them $25 plus the 3 they got back is 28 plus 2 dollars is 30

It's a bit like saying you have ten fingers but start counting backwards with the one hand you get to six and hold up your other hand 6 + 5 = 11

The Hotel get £25.00 for the room, the friends get £3.00 back and wiater gets £2.00 = £30.00

The only way to calculate this is that they each pays £9.00 which is £27.00 but they dont know that £2.00 went to the waiter, and they have £3.00 left, so £27.00 plus 3 = £30.00. (the waiters £2.00 is from the £27.00)

starting price = £30.00

error price = £25.00
-----------------------------
refund price = £5.00
------------------------------
bellhop kept £2.00

gave back 3 x £1.00

total is £5.00 what was refunded
----------------------------

thus the the motel room was sold for the discounted price of £25.00 + refund = £30.00 ..so there is no missing dollar only in the way you say it
makeing it read as 3x 9 +2= 29
