im moving to colorado in may to work on a ranch for the summer, this is a perfect oppurtunity for me to take some amazing pictures. im willing to spend up to 1200$ please help me decide on a great camera to buy!

Unless you have a computer on this ranch to download pix out of the camera, you best go with film.

Take a look at the Nikon D-40, its a great camera. The small (for SLR) size means more comfort on hikes and you are just more likely to lug it around. You can shoot both RAW and JPG files. Its fast instant on without any annoying lag. The camera is about $600 with the 18-55 lens. So you can save some money or look at getting the 18-200 lens.

Having tried many digital slr camera, i suggest u go towards
the canon 400D. It offers great flexiblity and it is value for money.
The canon 400D is great for beginners and amtueurs...there is no limitations in the type of lens that u be able to use unlike the Nikon D40.It is also light and easy to use. If ur heading towards Nikon i suggest u go for the Nikon D50 or the D80. They are much better camera than the D40.
