In general there are no useful 'cough mixtures', the concept is a throw back to Victorian days of tonics and the like.
Theoretically they divide into two groups:
1) Expectorants- these make you cough more!
2) Cough suppressants-these reduce cough by suppressing the cough impulse. The cough impulse is a protective one which the body uses to expel material, dust, pollutants or mucus from the airways. Suppressing it may cause pooling of secretions and increase infection risk.
Short lived infrequent cough is best left alone since the old adage if nothing works give nothing is a good one. Recurrent or prolonged cough needs investigation to exclude underlying causes such as atypical infection, the commonest of these is still probably whooping cough, despite immunisation, or asthma which is very common indeed, but often mild and below the level that needs therapy.

A non-productive cough that lasts a long time, and is characterized by a tickle in the throat, could be allergy-related, or a chronic bronchitis. I would recommend seeing your doctor to find out the exact cause and treatment method. Meantime, you might try a cool-mist vaporizer at night, to keep up the humidity level in your bedroom. That might help ease the cough. Also, some OTC cough suppressant like Ny-Quil or Mucinex. But see your doc as soon as you can so he/she can find the exact cause.

First you have to stand on your head for 5 minutes, then do 10 push ups, followed by brisk walking and finally a hot steamy shower. Inhale the steam and your dry cough will be cured. Plus you'll feel fit from the exercise. ;-)

generally that's refered to as a dry cough.
you should get some herbs with mucilage properties: mucilage -containing plants (plantain, mullein, irish moss, marshallow) work on the respiratory system in several ways to reduce coughs. one mechanism is they block the cough receptors in the respiratory tract, thus reducing the cough reflex in the central nervous system. they also act to soothe irritated, dry mucous membranes and to reduce inlfammation. irish moss contains immune stimualting polysaccharides which act to stimulate the immune response. Pleurisy root and cramp bark, acting as an anti-spasmodics, relax the bronchial muscles and airways.

An old wive's remedy my fiance' has given me before is a shot of whiskey with a spoonful of sugar. It helped, believe it or not. Of course, cough drops help just the same without the nasty aftertaste.

although there is no cure for a cough, you can help it to go away by drinking 64 onces of water each day, (or 8 8 ounce glasses of water) and by getting plenty of bedrest.
