Give it a few hours. Be really careful. It's so easy to bite your own cheek without realizing it, and it hurts like heck! It may take more than 3 hours although some dentists say less. After that, you should probably be OK. (You'll know when the time comes).
All the best.

Novocaine usually takes one and a half to two hours to wear off. Start taking Motrin before then to ease any pain.
Take care.

Depends what they used... if its wisdom teeth they might have used marcaine and that's about 8 hrs total.
Novocaine (used for most extractions a general dentist does) is about 4-6 hours total. :)
You also might want to take some Tylenol (since it doesn't thin your blood) before it wears off just to make sure you aren't in any pain.

THIS DEPENDS ON WHICH ANESTHETIC WAS GIVEN. NOVOCAINE IS NO LONGER USED, BUT LIDOCAINE USUALLY LASTS AROUND 4 HOURS.
