I'm not sure about the peanut butter, just dont use Peter Pan since it's on recall.
But I had them one for an hour no stop, my sister's father in law gave a 1/2 cup water with 1 tsp baking soda in it, and i had to take 10 sips and not breath while doing it, that was so nasty, but they were completely gone.

A co-worker use to get the hiccups all the time. The one remedy that worked for her was getting a coffee cup with a small amount of water. About 1/8 -1/4 cup of water. Get a match from a match book. Lite the match and drop the lit match in the water. Take a sip of water really quick. You will smell the sulfer from the match but drink the water anyway. The hiccups will then go away like magic.

When I was teaching elementary school and there was a kid with the hiccups, I would tell the kid the class could cure it.
I would always talk to the hiccupper privately first and told them exactly what was going to happen. They would laugh and think it wouldn't work but for those who would try the cure, it worked.
The cure?
I would have the kid stand in front of the class and hiccup for the class. Somehow 20 sets of eyes cured it every time.

I don't know much about hiccups, but I can always get rid of mine as soon as they arrive. Instead of letting the air come into my lungs during a hiccup, I open the tube to my stomach (esophagus?) and let the air in. You can know how it feels when you swallow air to burp. When you know how it feels, you can open the tube without swallowing. I don't get hiccups because of this. Maybe it will work for that girl.

my husband got it for a couple of weeks and nothing worked. Only when he fell totally asleep did he stop, but when he woke up it started again. We went to the doctor and was given medication. Something with having some bacteria on the esophagus. Can't remember the name but it is also used for schizophrenics (weird, i know)

Eat a very large spoonful of peanut butter in one bite. Your mouth will stick shut while your trying to swallow it and then your breathing will begin to regulate itself. Your diaphragm will relax and you'll be back to normal. Works every time.
