I use Garnier # 35 I think, it is a very natural auburn red, but the box says to go to a salon or call the help number before dying your highlighted hair red, it may come out a hideous shade of pink or orange. It's best to let a pro do reds, I have naturally light-med brown hair, so it's really not a problem for me, but if I had blond highlights, I'd definitely let a pro do it.

Go to a salon! The different highlights in your hair will most certainly take the color differently, and red is one of those really tricky colors. I don't think it will come out right with the do-it-at-home kit. It would suck to wind up with orange or purple hair!

I had my hair red and i did it myself, i had my hair all one color though. Since u have your hair with highlights they will show. I got highlight and am trying to get ride of them, so i dye my light brown and they still show. I have doen so for a couple of months. U should defently go to the salon and get some professional advice. I did everything myself and my hair is really damaged...to the point were it was just breaking off. So my advice is just to go to the salon. Its worth the money.

I think you should go to a professional colorist. A hairdresser once told me that red is the hardest color to get right, and the hardest color to remove. You don't want to end up looking like Carrot Top or worse yet, like a glass of sparkling Bergundy. If you have to go with home color, choose something semi-permanent with built in hi-lites, to allow margin for error. I hope you get good results. Hey, maybe you should try on some red wigs to help you choose just the right shade.

you could go to a salon which would work great but also you could try loreal! It's a great hair dye product! Red is the hardest color to get right on your hair so I think a salon would work better!

i suggest going to the salon.
simply because [unless you bleach all of your hair and make it one whole color] it will come out all different shades of red.
the red wont even show up on the darkbrown part.but it will show up perfect on your highlights, therefore unless you chose to bleach your entire hair, you will end up with different shades of red.
ps:red is the fastest fading color.it will fade the fastest out of all other hair dyes.
no matter what brand you get,how much you spend on it.
it will fade pretty quick.
`hope this helped.
